Yup, I'm going about this the wrong way, like I always do.
2012's LRRS season is nearly here, and I need stuff to race.
Quick and dirty resume: Started road racing pitbikes in 2005, that addiction got redirected into real road racing in 2008. Managed to put a GS500E on the box a few times as a novice, put an ailing KTM 520SX on the podium as a novice while turning my best lap time of 1:25, got approved to bump to AM but stopped racing in 2010 to buy a house.
The Plan: I'm reviving a 1992 Yamaha FZR400 RR SP to run in ULSB. I will not be 'underbiked' this year. If LRRS lets me I'll hit the track sporting orange plates, if not I get to restart as a novice, either way my plan is to bump early and often. I don't expect to be seeing the podium much once I get out of NV given the talent in that class, but I'm going to try just the same.
What I can offer: I'm a big fan of scratch my back, I'll scratch yours. Helping me out means I'm going to try and return the favor by directing friends/neighbors/strange stray animals to you. On track and off. Did I mention I'm online just a bit? You want pics? I'll happily pony up for some pro shots of me and the machine either collecting cool in a posed shot or on track looking like I know what I'm doing with your name plastered tastefully across the bike. Race reports will grace NESR as always. I can try to write something to submit to RRW/etc but I'll be honest, I've no experience in that area.
Who's there with you?: There are three labels that will be on the bike besides yours right now, a 'Damn you Pags!' tribute to the basta...person who got me hooked on Fizzers, Bridgestone stickers, and the name of the shop massaging my motor.
What do I need?: The kicker is in the details, right? At a bare minimum I need a transponder to play. For safety reasons I really should be replacing my boots, helmet and gloves. (I'm a Held fan now... if you want a show and tell set of pics as to why good gloves are worth it, my left hand is perfect...) If you can help with those items it'd be greatly appreciated.
* Prize consists of my charming personality available for use as a sales tool.
This doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of working, but what the hell, can't hurt to try, right? Pics of my machine and other details available via PM or email/phone/etc as needed.
How much to get a picture of Carrot Top on your fairings?
Seriously, I'd be in if the price was right.
I'd also want an autographed photo of the bike and you standing behind it with the seven trophies you're going to win.
Well... lets put it this way...
My costs to enter round one may be:
- License $120
- Penguin? $250
- Transponder $400
- Gloves $350
- Boots $350
- Helmet $200?
- Yada Yada Yada
I'll have to pre-approve a pic/offer combo before it goes on the bike, Pags will be fine with me embarrassing myself but I want to make sure I don't offend the motor shop.
How much is it worth it to you to see me taking Carrot Top's mug for a spin around NHMS in anger for a weekend?![]()
Smack dab on the side fairing, and possibly a Rossi style decal on the helmet?
Something like this face would suffice.

Josh, you shouldn't have to redo penguin. You were only out for a season or 2. I'm sure you'll be ok.
When I start my KTM in the morning, rules are broken. Its inevitable...

As long as you went the step to get a license at some point (even if it's not current), you're good for a couple seasons for sure.
You may want an Advanced Course to get tuned up .....
I renewed for 2010 but never got on track, and let it lapse for 2011. Given this is a whole new world for me (inline 4 instead of a single or useless twin) I'm planing on some Penguin action one way or another anyways, especially if I'm allowed to retain my AM status.

Confirmed, Orange plates, 771 rides again!
I'd also like to thank Boston Moto for throwing support my way. I figured this thread would mostly be 'for the lulz' especially with the Carrot Top strategy popping up, but much to my surprise actual help came out of it. I'm rapidly running out of viable excuses to explain any horrid performance this year on my part... guess I'm just going to have to step up to the plate like a big boy now.
It also looks like I've found a group of nutters crazy enough to garage with me. I suspect good times in the future in the center garages.
Now back to finding deals on boots and a helmet, April can't come soon enough!
