okay, walk me thru this guys. i'm trying to get costs in line for racing. i've been focusing so much just on a bike a gear i feel i've somewhat neglected a race weekend in itself. how much are entry fees? what other fees are included? what about tires, assuming either sv650 or ex500 and their average rate of wear. how much would a weekend of racing cost me?
Plan on $1000 a weekend in MW-HW, more on crash weekends.
It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?
Alex 2005
---------------
2 Races a weekend - $120 (post-reg for sprints)
Entry to track - $20-25'ish
Tires every weekend - $300 (give or take $50 depending on brand / deals you get)
Food - $50ish
Gene Berrio 2005
---------------------
1 Race per weekend - $60
Entry to track - $20-25
Food he brought - $ 25
He would get new tires every 3 or 4 weekends of racing.
For a SV you can expect new hoops every 2 weekend if you are running 25's - 30's. Every 3 if you are going slower. Every weekend if you are going faster. Least that's IMO from what my similar bike did.

i think i'd be in the 2nd guys league. atleast at first.
wow, when i first read hessogood reply i started sweating bullets lol.
i'll be doing two sprints & a GT per weekend... so 50, 50 & 75 if I pre-register, 60, 60 & 85 if i post register...
tires... i'm gettin H2's for 130 a set & those will last me like 3 weekends probably, maybe 4... so call that 40 bucks per weekend in tires.(everyone's gonna hate me for sayin that
)
the rest is pretty much the same as what Alex posted above.

I started on an EX. In my experience tires for your first season on an EX= 2 sets. Any more is really pissing money. One set will go the distance, but they will be well shagged.
A full season can be done for 3K (minus bike and startup costs), but you MUST be frugal. food and other comforts add up fast...
Another good way to save money is to skip the first and last events. It's usually miserable weather for racing anyway...![]()
yeah with my confidence, anything short of blue skys will be viewed as god telling me "not today kid"
I was buying 2 sets of tires a season, 2 sprint races and 1 GT race per weekend and sometimes I'd sneak in a Friday afternoon practice and I was averaging about $450-$500 per weekend.... and that was not including the purchase of a bike or any gear.
There's a lot of little costs that people don't think about when they plan for racing, all those little $5 or $10 things here and there is what adds up.
Just a quick breakdown (i'd actually bump my costs to $500-$550 per weekend)
2 sprint races $100
1 GT race $100
Track entry $ 25
electric fee $10
Gas to get there $60
gas for bike $20
oil change for bike $20
food shopping for basics $40
food/drinks bought during the weekend $50+ (yeah you have to eat either way but it always seems to cost more away from home)
Just that total is $445 per weekend and that doesn't include tires and any crash damages, and I was on a very cheap bike to run and care for.
If you can't afford to blow at least $400 per weekend, you probably can't afford to race![]()

Yamaha
eh, i think i can squeeze it if i get a summer job that has me workin 5 days a week with weekends off.
I did the whole season for about $3000.
No significant crash damage.
No GT races, 2 or 3 sprints- pre-entered.
Camping at the track.
I'd go through about 2.5 sets of tires per season. (I run 1:23s on a MZ Scorpion.)
Your cost per weekend will probably be equivilent to your monthly housing expense (mortgage/rent)...
Did you grit your teeth and try to look like Clint Fuckin' Eastwood?
Or did you lisp it all hangfisted like a fuckin' flower?
