I have to say, I'm amazed at the number of people dropping out, or considering dropping out of this race weekend because of a track layout change.
A few weeks ago, when the rumor of no power in the infield was flying around, there were two camps in that discussion.....those who were willing to adjust to the conditions and continue to race, regardless of supposed power issues, and the folks that were all "hell no" about it.
Now that we have a bit of a configuration change in our midst, the same people that were willing to go out on cold tires a few weeks ago are the same ones, now, who aren't willing to adjust to these new conditions......and on the arguement of safety?? I must ask, you feel that going out on cold tires in a race environment is more safe than navigating a slight configuration change?
What happened to "adjusting to the conditions"?

I'm not a racer, so maybe I shouldn't be commenting, BUT, I think it pretty straight forward and comes down to risk vs reward.
The bottom line is that the new conditions will be tough to learn fast, and there will be folks who haven't got a clue what the conditions are like and what adjustments need to be made. Given the close proximity of these chicanes (if that is what is to be used) to the walls, and the cones, which can easily end up in front of your tire if someone nicks one, if there are folks who come blazing in to those now tight sections at the end of the straight three or four wide, it can result in a dangerous situation, one whose reward is not worth the risk t some people???
EVERYTHING is a repost

Uh... yeah... I was up there riding the last two days.
Tony did a great job adjusting the course to suit the needs of track day enthusiasts and it worked quite well, definitely make the best of a less than ideal situation.... but I have NO fucking clue what they're gonna do this weekend to make that area safe for people going at full tilt race pace.
I came damned close to canceling my entries yesterday, but I said screw it & am gonna race anyways. Hopefully the powers that be will come up with something that'll work for us.

Okay....I think I have this figured out.
There are racers that will accept the dangers of going full race pace in the dry on a track with known ZERO run off, but these same people won't run in the rain or with a different track configuration because of safety concerns....oh but wait, it's okay to go race on cold tires.
Got it and it makes perfect sense...![]()
There's a big difference between no power and a forced configuration change. Turn 1/1A were placed there for a reason: it's not safe to run the oval at high speeds.
Maybe Eric Wood has a plan, I'm sure if anyone can make it safe it's him, he knows the track inside and out. But I haven't seen this plan, and after riding the trackday on tuesday I'm not willing to put money on it (literally). Until tuesday I didn't think it was a big deal, now I do, maybe if we had a chance to run Eric's changes I would have a different opinion but we didn't, and I don't. I'm disappointed not to be racing, but personally, it's outside my comfort level. That's all.
"safe as possible"
Consider the circumstances on any given weekend.
What's more unsafe, running the oval for a weekend or going 8 race weekends in varying conditions....running even after the NASCAR grease-fest on the hill and the unknowns as far as available traction up there.
So what you're telling me is, if there's ever a bike that goes down and spills oil on the racing line and you have a forced line (aka "configuration") change, then you're gonna hang up your helmet for the weekend?
Seems to me the risk of navigating around a new oil slick is much greater than running a known new layout. At least with the new config, you can see where the track goes.....oil slick, not so much.
someone said they had an on-board video of the setup, i cant seem to find it though.
Anyone got a link?

Did you watch the video Bergs? Thats frightening, and if its like that, I probably wont race.
HOWEVER, I'm planning on running unless I dont feel comfortable, then I wont.
I find it a waste of time to worry about what other people do

I did not watch the video. It's too much effort (and it's blocked at work).

Yeah, when that bike spewed oil and sent Jersey into the hospital, that made me think twice about racing again. Same when Bozzy died. And when I lost my brake pads in turn 1. That's racing. 99% of the population already thinks we're crazy. And maybe we are. But it's up to everyone who races to evaluate the risks on any given race weekend and decide for themselves whether they can accept those risks.
The "configuration change" or whatever you want to call it, that's not someone crashing in front of you, or dumping oil on the track. Those are unforseen risks that we have to accept can happen any time. This is a change which I (and others) believe is going to make racing less safe, on top of all the other risks that we have to deal with on a normal race weekend. And once again, unless you're willing to pay my medical bills, maybe you should back the fuck off on telling people what risks they should and shouldn't be willing to take up there. You feel comfortable racing this weekend. I don't. Great. End of story.

Oh so now you're gonna get tough?
Just so you know, I'm not telling anyone they should or shouldn't do anything.
I guarantee I never once said "you guys should be racing this weekend" or "you guys shouldn't feel unsafe" or anything remotely close to that.
So how about you back the fuck off and wash the sand out of your vag before you get all up in my shit for asking a question and stating another side of the discussion as well as some thoughts.
EDIT: You seems to have stated your thoughts and with that I guess we won't be hearing from you here, right?

What, he says something that's 100% right so you think he's being a tough guy? Honestly, Paul, it seems to me like you're the one tryin to be tough here.
Dan's also right... stop worrying about what other people do. (as well as indirectly telling them what they should/shouldn't do)

Who's getting tough? Maybe I'm a little irritated at the way my race season's been going. But you seem to be coming across as if those of us who are concerned about racing without 1/1A are somehow ignorant to the risks of racing. And that is just not the case.
I know every risk out there, and I consider them before making my entries each weekend. This particular risk is more than I am personally willing to take. I think the starts will be scary as hell and the devices used to slow down the entry speeds can potentially make for some dangerous interactions between slower riders (me) and those racing for the win (not me). This is a reasonable, logical concern, and I don't understand why you feel the need to be condescending about it.
