Re: What happened to "adjusting to the conditions"? (Anyone, everyone, come inside)

This is my last post here and after that you vultures can pick it apart as you see fit.....doesn't matter that I say this, you'll likely do it anyway.

When I posted this thread yesterday, it was in the hopes of bringing to light the fact that some people are so ridiculously quick to drop out of a race weekend regardless of obtaining exacting information to base their decision on.

I never, at any point in time, judged the people who saw the potential layout for themselves and based their decision to not race upon what they witnessed. Even when provoked, I stayed as close as I could to the topic at hand yet, things still went south. I imagine there's some pride and ego playing into this on most everyone's part but who's really willing to figure that out or to admit that?

As with nearly all threads on this forum, it sprialed out of control and got to the point where the original topic was lost...all occurring within a few hours of the thread being put up. The amazing thing is, at least two moderators led the charge at diminishing the quality of the conversation by twisting words, adding words and even going so far as to seemingly band together in an attempt to take away from my integrity. Not sure what to make of that, but that's what I'm left feeling.

Now that a video has been posted, this thread no longer has much value. People can now see what they are faced with and base their decision on that. Just know that I never, ever judge anyone or call out anyone who makes a decision based on real information. People who know me know this.

If people want to be angry at me as a result of this thread, that's fine. If you are angry at me as a result of this thread, then you didn't get the point of this thread and probably never will at this point. Regardless of our disagreements, I love you all and will always be there for you no matter what because that's the kind of asshole I am.

Re: What happened to "adjusting to the conditions"? (Anyone, everyone, come inside)

<-- not even a track day junky but I figure Id chime in since it looks like everyone else has taken their shot. I really think the problem here is when you started the thread you apparently thought it necessary to take it upon yourself to somehow call people out and say they arent racers if they are backing out on an event due to what they deem as a potential safety issue. Everytime someone hits the track, whether they are running a track day, a race event, or out there working the event they are taking calculated risks. Each has an escalation factor that brings someone closer and closer to a zone of discomfort.

That calculated risk then gets weighed against your responsibilities (children, jobs, loved ones, families in general) and priorities (having fun, honing your skills, trying to win a trophy, trying to win a championship, trying to make it to the next level) If that calculated risk isnt worth it based on the factors in your responsibilities and priorities then a decision has to be made. Do you go out there in an uncomfortable situation, possibly second guess yourself and get hurt or have someone else take you out... or sit out 1 weekend. Whichever someone chooses its their choice, who are you to judge them without being in their shoes or understanding their responsibility / priority set?

I really think thats the problem here, either you intended to just start a thread to stir Sh!t up or you somehow think you are better than everyone else or maybe "braver". I dont know you but honestly I hope it was that you were trying to stir it up, otherwise you kinda look like a tool.

My thoughts on the new config for what its worth, they did they best they can to make it safe as far as the big concern of speed. The problems I see is people coming into that from the start and any other "more meaningful lap might get into the cones if they are trying to ride agressively. Those cones have to go somewhere, more than likely bouncing off a rear tire into the track. If riders are single file someone is going to check up and get tagged from behind. Thats not even getting into the thoguht of people tooling air fences because "they move" and theres no real "repercussions" of hitting them. Then you get into if a someone does check up or go down, where are they sliding? Hopefully the angles are all setup right so that the slie or runoff doesnt = anywhere near the other chicanes (tough to tell from the vid). Best case scenario there will be a bunch of red flags to fix cones because after the incidents last week I dont think there will be a lot of workers running onto the track during hot laps when bikes get spread out. I might be wrong and it could go off without a hitch, one thing is for certain they did a lot better job than everyone was thinking would be done making it as safe as possible.

I wish i was up there working this weekend, helping keep you guys safe but im stuck in RI until sunday afternoon. Those of you running, have fun and keep your head on a swivel. Those of you not running, I definitely cant blame you. See some of you Sunday!

PS. Also watch it picking up the throttle coming out of that last chicane. Theres no other real places on the track you are going that slow leaned over and have to grab throttle hard. Might lead to some slower speed hide sides that wad people up too.

having read none of this I'll just say that the chicanes were a blast. very tight, but damn fun (on a lightweight bike anyway). I loved it... woulda loved it a lot more if I hadn't f-ed my geometry to the point the hawk wouldn't finish any corner, but meh. that's my doing. chicanes were a fun change and cool rhythm section.
and yeah. I'll never return to this thread

Much todo about nothing. There was 2 maybe 3 crashes (very minor) in the first chicane yesterday. That's same or less crashes than what we normally get in old turn 1.

It was super fun, challenging, and mixed things up. Those of us that could adapt quicker were able to put serious time gains on those that weren't.

I watched every class noive thru expert big and little bikes race it and was no big deal. I hope we do it again

+1 on everything alex said. well, not so much on the hope we do it again part, but it was fun and didn't turn out to be dangerous. I was on the fence about the whole deal until I was out there for practice, but everybody was real cool about not pulling bullshit moves through the detour, so thanks to all involved. I was one of those who couldn't adapt, so get paving bitches.

I thought it worked well also. I enjoyed it and adapted very well. In one of my races I was pushed out on the 2nd turn in the chicane but thank god for a restart. It was pretty tight in there but like others have said- it was a good switch up from the same old! Good luck on Sunday guys!

I got a message from one of the LRRS staff last night who said to me on thursday, 'just come up and race it'. The message was, 'you made the right choice, lots of red flags, lots of broken collar bones.'

Re: What happened to "adjusting to the conditions"? (Anyone, everyone, come inside)

Doc unfortunatley was one of the broken collar bones due to a practice mishap in the first chicane. A rider ran into doc causing him to tip over and snap. I have been one I the faster guys thru there on weelittlebikes and u have to be careful in prac and with lappers cuz some guys are paaaaarking it in the. I almost rear ended a few. Point is rider judgement and smarts have to be high.

Also it was a automatic red flag if anything in the chicane was touched and had to be readjusted.

They did a brilliant move for the starts, Which we were all worried about. There was a extra row between each. So we used row 1,3,5,7,9 etc. Worked great and helped keep ppl in check funneling into T1 on the start.

Great weather great racing. Fun chicanes. Woo.

Yep, I was a casualty. I thought the chicanes were ok. The biggest problem was the lack of experience of the riders for that section. (I don't think I was parking it having had the practice in the advanced school the day before)

I can't type well left handed so I will keep my explantion of my crash to my report post.

Yup, lots of hubbub and bitching about something that turned out to be fine and actually a good time.

There were no multi-bike incidents during races in this area from what I know of.

Fun weekend (even if i wasn't too happy with my riding)

Re: What happened to "adjusting to the conditions"? (Anyone, everyone, come inside)

I tried talking up Eric to convince him to keep that layout for the classic... but for some reason slow ass chatty novices in the rest room just don't have that much gravitas in conversations like that... It was damn fun, the three back to back chicanes meant you never had time to 'setup' for any part of it, you just had to keep the bike rocking under you tried to keep your speed up. There isn't any place like that on the current track, so in my mind it really adds to the experience.

I liked the chicanes. It was annoying on the occasion I got stuck behind someone basically parked in there, but whatever... just more motivation to make sure I get around them before next lap. Overall I thought it was a fun layout.

LMAO. You're the only person I talked to that didn't like that pass! I made it stick, no bikes rubbed, nobody crashed, and by the time we got around the track another lap I had half the front straight on both of them.

That said, it might benefit me to learn how to pass in some way other than "late brake the shit out of people in 1".
