I've found a new helmet I may buy. If the shell is fiberglass and it has all the DOT and Snell approvals it'll be fine for LRRS, right?Maybe I should read the discussion on the LRRS page.
no, there are certain specific helmets that LRRS does not allow b/c they've seen the helmets fail horribly when they shouldn't have. i can't remember the brand(s), but they should be on the site
btw, i'm very biased on the topic, i'd stick with the big names, arai, suomy, shoei... just my $0.02![]()

Eh, big name, small name. It's all the same! (ready for the fireworks?)
Did we not go through this topic enough earlier this summer???
Do a search in the Pit Area topics and there is plenty of info from all the controversy with helmets this year at Loudon.
....Also I only wear an Arai or Shoei helmet.
I bought an Arai and crashed on my head the first weekend I had it....I had a headache and ruined the helmet, but I was o.k.
The other guy involved wasn't wearing a good helmet and took a nap on the track and got a ride in the ambulance.
Just my $.02 as well.

I know, I know. Note the "fireworks" comment? It was a joke. And for the record, I fell and whaled my head last year in T3 while wearing a cheap HJC. All I had was a headache also. I think it depends on the crash. I'm just trying to find the info that seems to have been removed from the LRRS website.

From what I gather, if it's Snell2000 approved and fiberglass, then it's ok to run? If that's the case, then my Icon would be fine for next season. Some fellow racers told me it wouldn't fly. The new one I'm looking at is Snell2000 approved and fiberglass.
I'm not looking for folks to tell me that THEY like a certain brand, or that cheap ones suck. I know.
I'm looking for the rule.
I think this is the thread Nazo is reffering to ; http://www.nestreetriders.com/forum/...elmet+AND+nhis
IMO i couldn't trust anything ICON to protect me especially when racing. And yes i've gone down on ICON products and haven't had great results.

Don't cut corners in the area of safety. I crashed and hit my head hard twice wearing my new Shoei. Helmet shows some huge gouges but no so much as a headache. I'm not the results would have been the same wearing my old HJC. just my .02 worth.

just so you know.. next year they are going to start "suggesting" people buy new helmets that are SNELL 2005. if you are planning on buying a SNELL 00 then you might want to rethink it.Originally posted by Stupidhawk007

I was looking to see if anyone was going to mention the SNELL 05.
Current HJC fiberglass history
3 crashes in 06 (one big one in T8)
3 crashes in 05
2 crashes in 04
No concussion
I'M NOT BRAGGING JUST THANKFULL
I am currently looking at other helmets for next season. Not HJC
I like test results. I need to track down the results produced by an INDEPENT lab. Anyone know the link?

J/K, I'd probably crash several times a season if I were ever to ride on the track.
For some of us, it's not that we're cutting corners on safety, it's what we can afford to buy. Believe me, I'd love to grab an ARAI RX-7 helmet, but even on eBay, they're $400.Originally posted by need4speed

So, I opted for HJC's top of the line AC-12 for now. I'm also trying to piece together a full leather outfit, instead of the textiles I currently own. It just takes time for me. Guess I need to find a job that doesn't suck 10% of my pay for the commute.
here's a 'recent' article by MO, should help to further rile up people

My crashes keep decreasing every year. I keep learning what makes me go boom. So I stop doing it. Last one I could not help. I had help. My goal is not to go fast it is to stay up now...

They will not let yu race with a snell2000 helmet it has to be 2005. I know because they wouldn't let me through tech with my 2000Originally posted by SVRACER01

Maybe we can get some light shed by our rider rep. I'm getting sick of buying new helmets.
Mike?
It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?
any group buy you'll save $20 on a $700 helmet. No thanks.Originally posted by 97BladeRider
How about an NESR helmet group buy. Any ARAI distributors on here?
(I wouldn't mind a nice RX-7 Tommy Gun)

Oh Snap!!!! Here we go again. So my Arai with a snell 2000 is good for next year? or not? Who has the legitimate on paper rule?![]()

I don't know how else to explain this, I specifically asked the Helmet Tech Girl two weeks ago about this issue. Rumours were that you needed Snell2005 for 2007 Race Season and therefore I would have to buy a new lid HENCE my questions.
As I already explained the word I WAS GIVEN by Helmet Tech Girl was: (to paraphrase)
"For 2007 you can run your Snell2000 helmet still. They will be stressing the new 2005 standard at every rider meeting of the year to get people ready and prepared to buy a new lid going into 2008."
Oxx was standing there with me and he also already stated the same thing.
This isn't really rocket science and before people go into some big anti-LRRS bashing spree take note that all the major Roadracing Orgs have similar rules in the books. Hell I went down to VIR in March and Cornerspeed wouldn't let me use my backup Arai Snell2000 helmet because it was made in 2001 and was over 5 years old from point of manufactuer. They were okay with me using a $140 Vemar that Daviid was kind enough to led me however *shrug*

I'm not interested in bashing. I just want to be race ready for next season. If i need a new lid i'll buy one. I just like to plan ahead and get the official word so i am prepared.
So what exactly is a "Rider Rep" and who is said person?Originally posted by hessogood
