    Hey SV Guys...need input

I'm looking for a new racebike and found this on craigslist. I haven't seen many SV's on the market out here, so I'm not sure what's a good deal outside of a 600. I know a few of you were also in the market or picked something up recently.

What do you guys think? Decent deal? Anything specific I should be asking or looking for? (assuming he still has it)

It's a decent deal. Not wonderful. The extras make it a nice package. If you could get him to include the stands and warmers that are in the pictures, it would be a home run. Ebay some of the extras and it would be a grand slam.

I bought Chris Whitman's SV at Loudon. Appears to be very similarly setup to that one. For what it's worth I paid $2,500 without any of those spares. Bike was setup with stainless lines, Penske Rear double adjustable, and GMD reworked TLR front forks, triple, and calipers, sharkskinz bodywork, woodcraft sliders, rearsets and clipons. I've since added a bunch of spares. $500 for what he's offering for spares is a pretty good deal too from what I've seen.

That's about in line with what I was thinking. Sell off the street stuff to fund a suspension refresh and to fill the spares box. Just wanted to get a feeling on the price range.

Unfortunately, he sold it already...guy picked it up this morning

Even got Beth to buy off on this one. I guess pushing $6K for a prepped 600 worked. A $2-$3k SV looks like a great deal to her

make a really low offer, the worst that happens is they say no. You'd be surprised what people may be willing to accept though.

i dont know what a GP front suspension is and PK will tell you that the shock will make a good doorstop. well he might not even give it that much credit.

if they were any good they would know that shock sucks
IIRC...PK said they can be tough to service or get parts for. IMO...if you may have to buy a new shock then either find something with everything you want or find something cheaper/stocker and build it yourself

cant really judge a place by what someone decides to put on there bike. PK or MM can tell you all day long to go get ohlins, but if you decide to go with fox. they will still install it for you.

thats not what i said. PK has never told me to buy Ohlins, but Penske is proven. im just going by what ive heard him say to others. yes..they will install it, but IIRC he also said that service or part (i forget which) can be difficult.

    Re: Hey SV Guys...need input

yeah...i remember him saying that servicing them can be difficult because they're no longer made and parts are hard to get. They're also older technology at this point compared to a newer penske or ohlins.

I was going to offer him $2500 for the package, hoping to meet in the middle, and figuring I'd be re-doing the suspension anyways. I wish I could find another one around here. I've been looking for a while and i'm seeing a lot of street bikes where people want too much for them.
