I wouldn't be too terribly surprised if they tear it up and re-do it, or just modify what's there.
They've got SIMILAR curbing in some areas of NJMP, but it doesn't have that "back wall" that's pointed out by the arrows.

Not a problem if you stay upright and off the curbing.![]()
Agreed.
Same with Aarmco barriers and concrete wals
Now obviously this curbing isn't nearly as dangerous as the above items, just saying it could pose an issue if you crash and slide into it. I think that's where the issues lie.

i read about this about a month ago. looks a little sketchy to me, but im glad they are working on remedying it
When I start my KTM in the morning, rules are broken. Its inevitable...
01 SV650S (RC51 eater)/07 690SM /03 300EXC/14 XTZ1200
TRACKS:Firebird/NHMS/VIR/Calabogie/California Speedway/NJMP/MMC/NYST/Palmer/Thompson/Club Motorsports
it says them put them in to get a certain road racing certification.
My guess is that it makes it less advantageous if you cut a corner short?
makes it a penalty instead of a shortcut.
Either way, I wouldnt want to slide across one on my ass. Looks like it wouldnt be too easy on a car either

Ouch ouch and ouch...
If there's one thing I've learned in the years of doing track days its that riders can slide off ANYWHERE. Yeah, some places collect us far more often than others, but I've seen folks slide off the track on a perfect straightaway...and I wouldn't want to slide into those, period!
last article has Aaron Stevenson as point person for dialogue. I trust him to represent motorcyclists concerns...

Muhammad Ali.
you drive enough on the road and you see stuff that you just can't explain how the hell people managed to crash there in a car. Its amazing how people can manage to crash while going perfectly straight on a dry road in a car when not pushing any limits. When pushing the limits on a bike I wouldn't want there to be anything dangerous there that could have been easily done a different way.

exactly. the article says they made this design for the cars that ride the track.
they didnt account for the users on NESR that will most likely only ride ar Loudon, and make questions for viewing a picture & not reading why they made the change to their track.
Considering the fact that some of the curbs were installed prior to key players in their motorcycling community being notified or asked for input speaks volumes about how ViR is handling things.
Only after the fact were certain people clearly notified as to these updates and now suddenly, after a good amount of the intallations have been completed, ViR is seeing the backlash from yet another poor decision on their part.
It's sad, really, that the ViR mgmt have been so short-sighted, especially in the last 2 years because it's a wonderful place to ride a motorcycle.
Word. Looks like a pretty good committee they've put together.

Don't be surprised if the INSIDE apex sections do not get changed.

As a rider of VIR with Cornerspeed and Boston Moto the last few years, and therefore a member of primary intended audience for this press release, I am happy as hell that folks are comforted by the release.
As a critical reader, I can't find the comfort. What a poorly (and I suspect intentionally vaguely) written release. I've read it three times, and the parts I do understand raise more questions than they answer -- to say nothing of the other parts.

Dustin. I agree. It is a little vague and very hard to understand. I do however trust Aaron with my safety.
Agreed. Aaron's been around a LLLONNNNGGG time and I was extremely impressed with what I saw of him the few times I went to VIR and rode with him and the rest of the Cornerspeed.
Very glad Degsy started putting that trip together back in, what... '05?![]()
