It replaces the ignition, i.e. it is the key barrel's on and off positions.

as a result there is no longer an ability to lock the steering

Is this pretty similar for all bikes? I'd love to replace the keyed ignition on the SV.

You should be able to on any bike. It's just a matter of getting all the right wires. The tumbler is just a switch essentially, unless there is an imobilizer.

    Sure.

The trickiest part is getting the old ignition off from the triple. They use those safety bolts that at a given torque the part of the head with the hex shears off, leaving just a cap with nothing to grab. You basically have to dremel that entire head off and then the igntion just slides off the bolts/studs. Then you can either cut or unscrew with vice grips the studs to get them off the triple.

Also you'll notice the bracket on the right side for the damper replaces the two bolts for the fairing stay / ram air setup with longer ones so the bracket fits there. On the other side is a simple 50mm fork clamp from Traxxion.

Yes usually you just need to figure out what wires to jump. Most common is two jumped like in mine and then two to a switch.

Only thing is, It's info that isn't always that readily available online because it basically tells someone how to steal your bike. Personally I don't think douchey bike thieves scour the interwebz looking for theft instructions so I'm not worried about it, some folks are very adverse to postings like it/this though.
