In my opinion, the best thing to do is to do the class and do what you gotta do to get your competition license. You don't HAFTA race once you get it! But it'll give you the opportunity to do the Thursday practice sessions for only $100. And with minimal prep needed for your streetbike. I've been to some morning Thursday practices when there were only 9 people out there! And two of them were streetbikes...
Did you grit your teeth and try to look like Clint Fuckin' Eastwood?
Or did you lisp it all hangfisted like a fuckin' flower?
I agree with you on the morning sessions there are only a few guys out there and it is a blast. But the afternoon sessions get a little crazy.
The class was good, but if he is doing it just to do a track day I'm saying there is more track time at one of Tony's track day.
No doubt about it. Definitely do a track day first to make sure it's your cup o' tea. Just wanted to toss in another (superior) option...![]()

Ok, I am pretty sure that I want to do Loudon, with a track day. I might do penguin school, but I want to do a trackday with Tony first.
The open practice sessions are on Thurs?
and it only costs $100 for the whole day?
I think I want to to get some instruction and get my feet wet before I go out on a track, unsupervised.
As for gear, I wear it all the time already
I have:
HJC CS-12
JR-Atomic Jacket
JR-Atomic Pants
JR-Highside Gloves
Sidi- Vert 2's
I know that I am going to need a 2 piece leather with full circ zipper before I can get on the track. What do you guys recommend? I know Vanson is right in Fall River, but I would have to sell my bike to be able to get a pair. How are AGV's for price and protection?
NESBA does have slots in Tamworth, and I figure its a little over two hours from me.
Your gear should be fine for now. Tony lets guys ride in jeans, but I wouldn't recommend it. The Tamworth circuit isn't built yet, and might not be completed this season. I've done 3 Nesba events and 4 of Tony's, his are much more enjoyable. I saw your post on the Nesba site, its a great group of people, but the way they run the beginner group is scary. I've had to many close calls and seen many stupid moves.
The Thursday practices are not every Thursday. You have to look when they have them on NHIS.com. It cost $100 for 4 hours either 8-12 or 1-5. The 1-5 session is the busy session and they have them before every race weekend. The 8-12 session is no off race weekends, but aren't all the time.
The Thursday sessions ARE run every Thursday during the race season. They run in the morning on the non-m/c racing weekends and in the afternoon when there's a m/c event that weekend. But you need to take Penguin and get your comp license to do 'em...
And now that I think of it, they even run a coupla Thursdays just before the race season gets underway...

I have done the Thursday practices for 3 years now and the 8-12 sessions ARE not run every Thursday during the race season. When the 2004 schedule comes out you will see.
They don't have ANY Thursdays listed yet on NHIS's site. But I did one every week for eight weeks straight. And only two of those were race weekends...
I have the credit card slips somewhere around here. Don't make me dig 'em out...

OK, I think you need to pull them out.Iwill agree with you that they do have them every Thursday, but only towards the end of the season like July, August and Sept. but not the entire season. Don't make me prove you wrong when they post it on NHIS.

PS- We really have the life. It's Friday night and we are talking about Thursday practices. What happened to the single life with no kids.
A'ight, I'll give ya that. Ok, Tony's school sounds like a good deal.
Exactly what kind of racing license would I get once I complete his course?
Would I have enough experience to do the Thurs practices (which may or may not be held every Thurs and may or may not be held every thurs morns and may or may not be held every Thurs afternoon) on my own?
Phew, I think I saved myself from any bickering with that one![]()
Tony's trackday is just a trackday, you get no license. If you want to do the practices you have to do the Penguin school. When you do the school I think you can do Friday practices too. I would just do the school because you will get more track time that way for less money.

Okay, here's the deal Chris...
To do MOST trackdays, all you need is a solid bike that's in good shape and some decent gear. No school, no license, no in depth bike prep...
To do Thursday or Friday practices, you MUST obtain a competition license. In this part of the world, you do that by attending and passing the Penguin school AND completing a 3 lap 'rookie race' which is the first race run of every race weekend. Then all you'd need to do is REGISTER for a 'real' race. You don't need to actually run in it (your bike would require extensive prep), all you have to do is register for one and pay the entry fees. Then you get a comp license from CCS in the mail...
Hope this clears it up a bit for you...![]()

If you do the school you have all year to do the rookie race, but you can still do the Thursday, Friday practices with just proof of the school.
Where's Adam??![]()

No shit? I thought you could only do Thursdays & Fridays if you had a comp license...If you do the school you have all year to do the rookie race, but you can still do the Thursday, Friday practices with just proof of the school.
Don't start with that shit in THIS thread, okay? I don't like him any more than the next guy. But he doesn't come over here and bother us...Where's Adam??![]()

Well it doesnt sound like it worth it to get a competeion license, epecially if I am not going to be competeing.
How much would it cost to register with CCS to get my competition license?
I dont think it makes sense to do the penguin school, the rookie race and register for something that I am not going to race in, just to get a license that only need if I want to go on a track unistructed.
I want to get some on track instruction and have better riders point out what I am doing wrong and what I could be doing better.
What are the main differences between Tony's track day and penguin school?
You don't need it because I did a Friday last year. I thought it was odd that there were 49 people out there, so I asked and that what I was told.Originally posted by Stoneman

I would ditch the joe rocket stuff, regardless of whether you ride the track or street. Joe Rocket SUCKS ASS!!!! I made the mistake of buying a JR jacket this spring, now I'd practically give the thing away.Originally posted by Mad Max

I am looking at Teknic 2 piece suit, are those any good?
it's better than JR. plus it's cheap, there's a thread in the gen. bike section about teknic chicane suits real cheap! Good luck man!
