3/10 is a good place to stop! There's a bunch of tires to assist in the stopping of your bike, a nice place between the rows of tires to lie down while you watch your bike pass you in the air, and a big group of friendly, helpful folks to hang out with!

The only real downside is the aftermath in 1a Saturday night. For example, when Kiera is saying things like "We were all standing around trying to figure out how the hell you did that! We were all waiting for you to turn, and you never did. You just rode straight into the tires and went ass over teakettle. We all figured it was a mechanical". Not the best thing for the old ego, especially when the only "mechanical" issue involved was the nut between the seat and the controls.

If he hadn't been told to shut his bike down, he may have started in one of his races.

When it all comes down to it, I just want to get out on the track.

The best was when I was still in Novice and I asked for a blue practice sticker in tech. The guy was like "BLUE?!?!?! You wanna go out in BLUE?!?!?! On an EX500??? You're gonna be out there with 600s!"
To which I replied: "Yeah and the guys on 600s that are in my friggin way in Yellow!"

Anyway, to drag this thread kicking and screaming back on topic, I think these new changes will work out very well once things get dialed in. I understand that there may be MORE Amateurs out on the track at the same time as the Experts for a given class, but the "quality" of Amateur out there I think will be a little better and overall, the classes will be a little more "equal".

The way it was, I think, promoted a little bit of uneven skill levels amongst the ranks so that the caliber of rider in each class (NV, AM, EX) overlapped quite a bit. I think this way there will be less overlap between rider classes.

I also think that even though there will probably be more AM/EX riders, because of this new schedule format, it looks as though there are fewer races with multiple bike classes, which means less waves.

At least that's my interpretation of it?

Not dogging on you personally, Chuck, but if anyone "needs" a rider in front of them in order to produce better lap times those people may want to think about another approach to their race craft.

It's one thing to play "carrot and mule" at a trackday with an instructor...completely different trying to increase your pace in a racing environment while trying to learn how to handle a motorcyle while trying to pass someone while trying to stay within a certain comfort zone......etc

I agree 100% with Paul's suggestion of finding reference points.

Yup. Having a carrot certainly helps tow you along and teach you things if you know what to look for, but the only guaranteed way that you'll STAY fast once the carrot is gone is to have a ton of reference points.

    My .02.

I think the intentions of everyone involved in the decision making were well grounded in the effort to make things better at the track. We won't know for sure until we actually start racing to see how this works for everyone.

We've known that's when Legends cars will start racing. Did you plan on being on track with them? I'm all set with that one.

I'm still interested in the garage setup for the legends cars, since we'll still be there on Saturday evening.

Re: Anyone have an issue with Novice racers getting bumped to Amatuer?

I dont see the new rules as a bad thing. In my experience when i bumped to AM i was only doing 25's in LW and by lap 4-6 the fast guys( babcock, Doucette, mullen,ok gaborio too) would go by like a blur, and i wouldnt even really have time to react or get startled. But they would give me something to chase into whatever corner they passed me in. Then afterward i would go talk to them and learn new reference points etc...

also i think it will help with class over lapping. In AM LW classes there were guys that should have been bumped a long time ago to EX but stayed in AM for what ever reason.

It is called cherry picking. They all want the pretty trophies and contingency they won't get as an expert.

On the flip, some of the experts just want everyone to bump all the time. I'm thinking they want bigger grids for more contingency, or slower guys so they feel more "mid pack" when they can't hang with the big dogs. When I was NV, I was getting pushed to bump long before I was even eligible. I have another friend that's a NV that got a shit-ton of pressure to bump so he tried, and got shot down. I've already been told to go expert! The only AM I've ever finished in front of is preteen, I'm a pretty solid bet for 3rd place in a 3 rider AM ptwin grid. Well, I was. I plan on dropping more time this year, of course.

You listen every time someone tells you to bump and one of two things will happen.

    1) Don will say no.
    2) You'll end up like Doc

    Wirelessly posted (HTC EVO "DROID" : Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.2; en-us; Sprint APA9292KT Build/FRF91) AppleWebKit/533.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/533.1)

When you're a novice you don't have reference points. And even if you do, those reference points are constantly changing as you get faster.
Chasing someone faster helps you brake later, turn faster and accelerate sooner. Sometimes if you don't have a reason to go faster, then you're just going fast enough.
We've been doing this a while and have reference points and have ideas on where/how to go faster. Don't get me wrong, I think the rules are great. Personally, I wish they would bag novice all together and adopt the CCS platform entirely instead of being this race series that is sorta like the rest but not really.
But, I don't race so my opinion doesn't really matter anyway.
