When I was NV, I was getting pushed to bump long before I was even eligible. I have another friend that's a NV that got a shit-ton of pressure to bump so he tried, and got shot down. I've already been told to go expert! The only AM I've ever finished in front of is preteen, I'm a pretty solid bet for 3rd place in a 3 rider AM ptwin grid. Well, I was. I plan on dropping more time this year, of course.

You listen every time someone tells you to bump and one of two things will happen.

    1) Don will say no.
    2) You'll end up like Doc
Staying on this topic, I think experts advise to bump when they hear all the podiums people are getting. They may only be 3 bike grids but they don't know that!
Dan, you should take it as a compliment and then kindly tell said individuals you are slow and they will stop telling you to bump.

As for being like Doc... I waited the required time, my index was close, my laptimes were mid pack, I asked people I respected what they thought and I wrote an articulate request to Don who bumped me without question both times (plus I am old and "wise"). I didn't stay in a lower class to cherry pick the field and moved up for better competition as soon as I could.

Now I am a midpack expert and happy.

C'mon dude, I'm breaking balls. Way to remove the fun with a bunch of seriousness!

As for me bumping to EX, it'll come, but not when I'm DFL every race I enter. I did take it as a compliment, and simply explained that until I can beat one of the other AM ptwin guys, this seems a bit early. You'll never catch me sandbagging, that I can assure you.

Going to miss being in your garage this season, Chris. But you have Jim to keep you company.

Not dogging on you personally, Chuck, but if anyone "needs" a rider in front of them in order to produce better lap times those people may want to think about another approach to their race craft.

It's one thing to play "carrot and mule" at a trackday with an instructor...completely different trying to increase your pace in a racing environment while trying to learn how to handle a motorcyle while trying to pass someone while trying to stay within a certain comfort zone......etc

I agree 100% with Paul's suggestion of finding reference points.
Race the track, not the other riders.
