Ok, so Dan finally bought his ex500. It's a nice bike, despite the fact that I laid it down in a parking lot playing racer on the way home (privately owned lot, Dan knows the owner) but that leads to a question: Do you guys race on those seats? Can we make a fiberglass seat and put a pad on it or do you have to keep that stock seat? Also that handle attached to the sub frame behind the seat, can that go? Are rearsets to much to ask? GP Shift? What can we do tho this thing while keeping it in the class? It has aftermarket suspension so I would assume there is some flexibility with the bikes?
I am also probably getting one of these this week so any info would be great because I'm going to disassemble and build it frame up since it's not quite the condition of Dans.
Its all in the rulebook. Everyone races on the stock seats, dunno if they're required, I believe they are. Suspension changes are allowed, but must keep stock forks and mounting points. Rearsets are allowed, whether they're necessary is a personal thing. The handle can go. For GP shift you need to get a different shifter, something like a 2002 ZX6s.
Seat and handle stay IIRC. Rearsets are ok.

Good to know, that handle can be pretty useful.
why would the seat have to stay?
i think people keep the seat is because its shitty mcbikefest

As per the rules...
So, based on that, my read is that you can remove factory plastic if you want, but you can't replace with alternate bodywork. You can however mount the stock seat pan with a layer of neoprene as a race seat.Production Rules:
8.3 Fairings supplied as standard equipment are allowed. Removal of fairings is permitted; however, a headlight shell must be refitted.
8.11 Seat padding may be partially removed and/or replaced with different padding.
8.19 Items to be removed in the interest of safety are: turn signals, rear view mirrors, side and center stands, license plate, and anything else as may be deemed dangerous by the scrutineer.
you might want to keep the padded seat since it takes 3.5 hours to make it down the front straight on an ex500

ive seen aftermarket body work run out there. how can they tell you that you have to run OEM bodywork? that ridiculous.

the exhaust is a performance enhancement...bodywork is not. if you look around i think youll see that there are more bikes without OEM bodywork than with

Yes, yes I am.
Looking at the rules again, I think aftermarket that matches OEM is OK, but anything that adds fairings (lowers if the bike didn't have them?) or changes the shape/look, like say a race tail is out. I could update my bike with GS500F bodywork, but not Airtech's Ttian kit for example, as the titan kit's bodywork is distinctly different from OEM.
After raising my ride height, per "order" of the EX Mafia, I had zero issues dragging my exhaust... even had enough clearance to run a belly pan, which made Oxx jizz in his pants, I'm sure
I also had a stock seat, but all aftermarket bodywork. Airtech makes aftermarket race glass, including a rear seat cowl that's one big piece that slips over the stock seat & subframe.
You can run the Gen 2 bodywork on a Gen 1 if you prefer... To my knowledge you just have to swap out the upper fairing stay & gauges.

Airtech makes a similar solo seat cowel for the GS, seemed very flimsy in how it attatches though. I can deal with number plates and having to cut one ziptie to pull the seat.
ridiculous...the same rules you are trying to stick with also say that you have to have a belly panbut anything that adds fairings (lowers if the bike didn't have them?)
i believe the rules in that area were meant to prevent bonneville streamliningor changes the shape/look, like say a race tail is out.
who cares. youre a NV running a GS that is severly down on power in a class that is over run with EXs. put GSXR1k bodywork on it and an aftermarket exhaust and i still doubt anyone will careI could update my bike with GS500F bodywork, but not Airtech's Ttian kit for example, as the titan kit's bodywork is distinctly different from OEM.

Good news, I have a belly pan for this year. That said:
So rail at the motards and any other 4 strokers running sans belly pans, but the ptwingles are exempt.Originally Posted by 2008 LRRS Rules

Nice, Dollah!
Oxx, why can't you be more proactive in your pursuit for belly pan rules?![]()
