So I had an idea to have a keyless gas tank for racing this season. The catch was, I didn't want to drop $80 for a good aluminum one or spend $20 on a cheap china one and vapor lock during a race.
I spent 20 minutes and pulled the tumblers out of the lock on my stock cap...for free. Vents properly, holds fuel like it should, and can use just about anything to open it.
So, if anyone else is looking to save some $$$, here you go. If you're patient and can handle small parts, it's really easy too.
Just thought I'd share.
Did the same to my EX500, but.... Patience? Small parts?
Uhhhhhhh... try

Hahaha. I thought about that but I wanted a finished look. All it took was a Phillips and flat head screwdrivers.
Anyone thinking about buying a keyless cap, dont skimp and buy the cheapies. They leak like crazy if you have a tip over. Buy the better ones, def worth the extra cash if you're going to spend money on one.

Hmmm....interested!
I definitely wanted to go keyless, but then started to second guess when I saw the price tag.
I'd like to go keyless ignition too and just forget having to have a key all together.

Thats what I did. Love it, I never have that mini heart attack anymore thinking I forgot the key, lol.

How much does it weigh?

The stock cap? More than $80 worth of aluminum.
Time and money better spent on track time will get me better improvements than a few ounces of aluminum will.
Wouldn't it make more sense to sell the gas cap and ignition module with keys to further support the addiction?
I looked at that but it's not really a hot seller. Still have the ignition switch to remove at some point so I could sell that.
Hahaha. That too. I only have one key so if I lost that, I was SOL when it comes to the gas cap (not now though). At least now if I lose/break my key, it's just more of a reason to ditch the switch.
What I've got.
Had it for a few years now. Zero issues. Great little cap. Only drawback is it's a little tough to open w/ gloves on.

I've had an extra bike key in my truck for a long time now just so I don't have that heart attack. of course I start the bike up to put it in the truck anyway so I've made a habit of when I do pull the key out I put it in the cupholder in the truck. and if I forget to take it out then its still in the bike so no worries.

I got mine used for $20.
Goes hand in hand with a keyless ignition.

Did you have to wire in a resistor to go keyless ignition? I know the sv requires some form of one in order to do that.

Hahah. Not much weight. The tumblers are actually small thin metal plates. I doubt they'd even come close to weighing half an ounce.
I have bought several knock off's with no venting or leaking issues..............and for 20$ its all good
Anyone want a 06 07 gsxr 600 750 cap with the KEY??????????
