The 560 isn't really the greatest platform either. It's too much power for the platform. Unless built right, it can be nightmarishly unreliable. But that's almost par for the course with any race turd.
Once they're built right, they are a blast to ride, and the racing is great.

Sorry for beating a dead horse...is 13k miles a lot for a 690smr?

i'm going to defer to paul on this one. valve adjustments are easy, it'd be a m'fer to start if they were out of spec. (and too loose might have beat up the aforementioned rockers faster), but other than oil changes and whatnot, i'm not too sure about cam chain stretch, and what else'd be needed during that lifespan. i never got there with my lc4. maybe richie can chime in too.

14,000 on my 07 690SM(exact same model as the CL one jane posted), valve check at 7,500 everything in spec, motorex 10-60 & filters every 3,000 miles. Planning on another valve check and rocker replacement this winter, possible preventative tensioner replacement.
got no info related to racing it, but it's a kick ass bike on the back roads![]()

You guys think $4k is a good price for an 06 560smr that had a title and light kit on it? It had 2k miles. What should I look out for as far as things wrong with it? Is it mostly valve adjustments that I have to do like on the 690?

Sounds decent if it's running well. Ask if the crank is welded, if the valves are still stock, look and see if any of the bolts are drilled (or other stuff that would indicate its been raced)
Regular maintenance if you get it: oil changes and valve adjustments. That's the only thing different than any other bike.

He says it hasn't been raced, but that engine is going to need a rebuild. I asked for clearification, but haven't heard back from him as far as the extent of the rebuild or if it's running. Price seems a little high with the need of a rebuild to me. I did the top and bottom end on my cr125, but guessing a 560 piston might be a little more difficult to get in. I also have heard the valves in the cylinder head can get expensive if they need work.

Whoa, full price for a bike with a engine due for a rebuild?
I'd price out a piston, cylinder and main bearings before settling on a price.
Also consider doing a long rod conversion.
Figure on $2000 for a full engine rebuild with stainless valve replacements and crank weld and stuff. Ktm doesn't sell anything but a complete crank assembly, so you can't replace just the con rod, or rod bearings. If your doing all that, you should put 2 ball bearings in for mains, and get rid of the right side roller. The ktm ti valves are 300 each. The full kw stainless kit, with springs, seals, guides, everything is 380, or thereabouts. The ti valves with the stock iron guides are fine in a dirtbike, but not great for a track turd.

Here was his response:
"The bottom end has the typical bearing problem that the560 engine has. I originally wanted 5500 for the bike and the 4kreflects the issue with the engine."
Sound right?

no way hose-A. it's too vague. if it still has the roller in it, it could be fine if it wasn't pushed too hard. but if it has been pushed, and the bearing has failed (the inner race pits, and it'll cause wobble in the crank) if it's been ridden in such condition, you can expect that 2k to turn into 2800 in the blink of an eye.
it'll sound like a bucket of bolts while running. and it will still run and make power.
