While watching a older loudon race on youtube I noticed they switched the configuration after turn 9 to include an extra turn which I thought was kinda neat. Will/do they ever do this???? As you go down the hill towards turn 9 you bang a right and go up to the spot where the penguin school observes the experts. I think it would def. slow down the race but none the less I thought it was a neat little thing.
Also......Has anyone ever run the track backwards??? I think it would be neat to go down and approach turn 3 backwards.

It's called the "tight 10" config.
It's fun, but sort of bottlenecks things.
Can't run the track backwards for a couple of reasons... mostly Turn 3 area.
They ran the "tight 10" configuration for one race weekend in 2005, it was awesome on a Motard![]()

Yup. Tight 10 config. I never ran it. I'd be interested in giving it a shot once to try out something different.
But there's no way in hell I'd go through turns 4 and 3 at full on race speed in a reverse config. What you call "neat" I call "a death wish"![]()

Tight ten sucked on a 125. Braking/downshifting coming down T9 and then trying to dig out of the hole really sucked compared to the wild ride of accelerating down 9 throwing it into 10 and pinning it down the hill at the transition bump... WHAM!
It was something different though, and many people found speed in other sections of the track to make up for the time they were losing in 10.
Motards benefited greatest as they could get out of the hole the best.
so sounds like they should switch it back then...![]()

I've run the tight 10 before... its pretty fun. A lot of people tend to bitch about working on their lap times and stuff but whatever.
If you want to see what it's like, come to a KART event. That's the configuration they run. Lot's of spin outs there by people coming in to hot for the tight turn.
Got chills down my spine picturing riders hitting the dirt/grass hill in turn 4, like some sweet motoX jump, and landing in traffic coming up the hill in turn 9. It would make figure 8 racing look tame! But there's no way in hell I'd go through turns 4 and 3 at full on race speed in a reverse config. What you call "neat" I call "a death wish"![]()

I've done some open practices with the "tight T10", since I don't race. I enjoyed it. Kinda reminded me of some of the back roads I used to ride, or rather, how I liked to ride them.
Can't comment on how it affected my, umm, lap times, but it sure did help tucker me out some more.

I know lap times are pretty important to me and a lot of people but I think for a track day or a race weekend it would be really neat. Whos call is it to do the tight 10?

The last time they ran tight turn 10 was my rookie season, 06. I thought it was a lot of fun; I wish they would do it again. I can see why the 125s would hate it, though.

I liked the tight 10 almost as much as that tight 18 year old.
I don't know who made the call back in 05, but I didn't know about it until i showed up at the track Friday evening and everyone was talking about. Riders meeting the following day confirmed it, I think it was the August weekend which was said to typically be the lightest turnout weekend of the season and that's the reason they said they were going to try it. I enjoyed it, again being on a Motard anything was fun. But yeah, it was funny hearing all the people bitch about lap times and whatnot...and the excuses caused by the tight 10 following their race![]()
Yamaha
I wouldn't mind riding it.
I wonder what it would take to get the track to try it again for another weekend?

Ditto. I'd like to see the return of the tight turn 10.Originally Posted by hessogood

Never seen it, no idea, but what the hell, I'm always game for something new. Why not?
Don or Jerry. I'll mention it to them at the banquet.
There was actually one weekend where we ran NASCAR Turns 3 and 4 as part of the course. Cones were set up to keep the action down low in these turns. Many felt it was fun, but we decided it was a bit dangerous and never tried it again.
