Why are the KTM 690's not good race bikes for motard? Too heavy? I would think they would be better than the 560 because the engine is bigger.

Yes, it's heavier, it's also a milder built motor. Think xr versus cr.
Somebody was running one last season.

Same reason the only time you see an XR650 lump it's in a TZ250 chassis... the bike itself is a PIG.![]()
I wanted something I could run on the streets, too. I figured the 690 would go faster than a 560, though. I was also thinking of a Husaberg fs 570.

Cliffs has a berg turd. I think it's a 2010 leftover, they might be willing to work with you.

You're looking at the wrong 690. Check out the duke 690

I have run a 21 on my 690 at loudon. It would need more suspension work to go faster. It has more motor than the MXers, but it's all up top, so you lose the real advantage of the motard, which is unlimited grunt. I kill all comers (motards) at Jersey where I can rev it out in 6th.
It's not quite a racebike tho... More a streetbike that can approach race pace.
Stay away from the berg. It's a bomb.

It's definitely a grey area bike. Although I think it would be tough to prove whether it IS or ISN'T a "motard". In reality its probably the original street motard. I would at the very least run it in Super singles an ULSB.

In novice maybe...once you start racing with cats that can actually ride, you'll wish you had a real turd. I'm not trying to be a dick, but there's a reason you don't see a bunch of guys running them, just like the hyper. (sorta)

Get it Sam. Then let me ride it! I think that Hartford one might be an SM-R. I didn't they they had regular 690s in black and also the beak and light are different from the SM and SMC.
