LRRS Credential at NHMS for $175 - is it worth it?

I received a mailer with the 2013 LRRS Rulebook that has a sign-up form to get "LRRS Credential Pass" allowing direct entry into the Main Entrance without having to sign in & pay entry fees. I guess it would be worth it, IF you were to attend ALL 7 LRRS Events AND did not want to Pre-Enter for 3 or more LRRS races/weekend. Seems to me that everytime NHMS looks at the people driving through the gate, they try to think of another way of getting more money out of us to ride around a track that caters to the NASCAR Ca$h Cow.

I have to wonder how much longer an average "Joe" can afford to race with all these fees related to road racing...

LRRS/CCS Racing License costs $125.00 per year.
Gate Fees of $25.00/weekend per person (unless you pre-enter 3 or more races/weekend)
Camping Fee of $25.00/weekend, extra cost to camp on Wednesday or Thursday nights prior to LRRS events
Seasonal Garage Rental $1125.00/season or $175.00/weekend (space permitting)
    $60.00 per 8-lap Sprint race, $85.00/GT (20-minute) race

Motorcycle Open Testing (Selected Thursdays) $150/day or $100/half day
6-month Camper Storage Fee $200.00 (May through October)
6-month Camper Storage Fee $200.00 (November through April)
LRRS Credential Pass $175.00/year (7 LRRS Events)
Transponder Rental $30.00/weekend - (or purchase your own for ~$400)
Eject Helmet Removal system (mandatory) $59.95
LRRS-Spec Fuel (~$3.80/gallon 93 octane) to upwards of $14.00/gallon for 5 gallon pail at $70.00
New set of Race tires at $375 to $400/set

Track Days & Penguin Schools seem like the best way to enjoy track time, especially if you only spend 1 day there (during daylight hours).

I also see that NHMS is looking to fill positions for LRRS Officials & Corner Marshalls, but current Racers need not apply...

LRRS is posting cash payouts for Seasonal Top-Three Championship results in selected classes, IF you participate in ALL Seven (7) LRRS events for one of these Championships. If you have ANY conflicting reasons that you need to miss one of the seven races/events, you are not eligible for the cash payout... Horseshit!

There I feel much better now & can't wait to ride at Barber Motorsports Park, Road America, VIR, NJMP, etc. and Have Fun!!!

When it stops being worth it to you, you'll stop giving them your money. If you're paying it, it's by choice.

I walked away and my bank account and list of hobbies grew immensely.

I know Im no longer their target market, but I would've flown home for a weekend to race, but with the license fee, transponder rental, AND helmet eject system, it was close to 200 bucks before factoring in all the "old" costs as well.

Do three races and your entry fee is waived thus saving you the 25 dollar gate fee. 7 weekends times 25 bucks = 175 bucks.

It's not worth it for anyone really... you still have to stop at the gate to pay for camping/hookups, and even if you're not camping you're basically paying in advance for something you don't need if you can't make it to a round.

Its so expensive that every spring I think about selling the race bike and getting a KTM and riding the trails in Maine. I could have a blast and cost virtually nothing. In fact I haven't sent in for the license yet. Still pondering.

    License Fee: $125 x 1 = $125
    Camping Fee: $25 x 7 = $175
    Races (3 w/e): $60 x 21 = $1260
    Fuel (5g w/e): $4 x 35 = $175
    Tires (2 sets): $400 x 2 = $800
Bare Minimum Realistic Total Fees = $2535

You aren't required to have a garage area, you aren't required to bring a camper and leave it there, you aren't required to show up and practice on thursday and friday. im not including other things such as transponders or the bullshit helmet eject thing, as they are basic startup costs, like having a bike ready to race, proper gear, etc. i don't believe there is a single organization right now providing free transponders. WERA is $60 to rent/we, CCS has a non chargeable good for 3 or so years transponder for $80.

Racing is expensive. If you can't afford it, then don't do it.

I think the price we pay is fair when you consider what we get in return. Motorcycle racing is just an expensive sport. There is no getting around that. Don't like it, take up frisbee.

Knowing what past practice has been the price increases come right before the season opener but after the typical relicensing time. "we hold your number till 1/27 so get locked in and then we hit you up for more loot"....Letting them know we(actually just you) don't care about price increases is just plain stupid and yes they do read this. Since you don't care wait till you see how much it costs when your the only paying customer. And the numbers back my claim up. i.e. tiny grids.

I think about this every year with my track day bike. It amazes me how much some guys can justify on racing.

FWIW, last year's grids were actually up in some classes. Also, IIRC, wasn't there some sort of something at the banquet proclaiming not raising fees (either from 2011 to 2012, or last year to this upcoming year) in order to help support us in hard times? I was pretty tired that night, so maybe someone else remembers.

I know, I know, my logic has no place in this thread.....

    that sounds about right.

They also said the pass was because people had asked for it. I'm sure the people asking did not want to pay for it, or at least not that much but whatever. It make no sense for me to buy one, I pre-reg 3 or more races, so I'm not going too.

shit wheelieman...thanks for reminding me I earned coupons for two races!
