Chris -- I'd just replace the crank and rod. You can get them for under $300. Hell, motosport.com sells a complete top and bottom end rebuild kit for under $600.

Yeah that kit seems like a no brainer hmm

I put the head on the bench this afternoon and compressed the valves and let that piece of motor drop out. Looks like the valve seats may need to be cleaned up, but it's reeeeal minor. Looks like the head is cool.

Giggity. I think I will rebuild with springs and stainless valves... it will hold up better and require less shimming than the stock valves which back themselves up into the height and tighten the clearances fairly quickly
