Re: Lt. Wt. twin VS. Middle Wt. I-4???
I'd say 600, because you're a big-boy, have the experience and money to make a starting level 600 work. these threads pop up twice a week, and I'm usually for the LW option based on the persons intro. You have a beast of a 1000, and although racing of any kind (I love thrashing it out with buddies on pit bikes), you're going to have a LOT more fun on a 600. to drop 100hp from your street bike to the track is going to leave you smacking the tail like happy gilmore to get it to move down the straits.
the 600 you have up for grabs and your buddies with take-offs make the 600 affordable.

Finally! Someone willing to tell me what I want to hear, rather than what I SHOULD hear...:shredder:

Re: Lt. Wt. twin VS. Middle Wt. I-4???

Here's the problem around here. You'll take the advice of one person telling you what you want to hear over the advice of 20 people telling you what you don't want to hear. Ask people to put what bikes they're speaking from experience on in their posts.
I've raced or riden on the track
600RR
929RR
EX500
MVagusta
CRF450
YZF450
RS125
SV650
Husky 6-something
GSXR750s
You'll find yourself learning how to race on a lightweight, you'll find yourself learning how to crash and fix your bike on a 600 far more than you'll be learning how to race in addition to the huge difference in tire cost.

Inside joke... Kit and I are friends... and HE wants me on a 600...
I really do appreciate all the the real advise here. I pretty much knew the right answer before posting the thread. I actually did learn a few things about Middle Wt. in here.

basically in each class they break down your CC limits depending on if you have a 2 stroke, single cylinder; a 4 stroke, 2 cylinder; a 4 stroke, inline 4 cylinder; etc etc... all the CC limits are different.

Re: Lt. Wt. twin VS. Middle Wt. I-4???
Noel,
Ride whatever you want. You're gonna have a blast no matter what you choose.
I went with a MW bike for two reasons--> 1) because I've always had an I-4 and 2) there's only 1 or 2 races per weekend as a Novice in the liter-bike class...:sad2:
Come to NV MW...there's plenty of fun happening there! You'll find that the only people hating on the MW class are the ones not riding in it, otherwise, it's really not that "scarey" as some would like to think.

I love the MW/HW class. But it is scarier than LW and ULSB for sure!
