Re: Lt. Wt. twin VS. Middle Wt. I-4???
Looks like you've already got the bike, but I'll add to the post in the very unlikely event someone actually searches and finds this thread.
I started the season on a 600 with the ignorant idea that I am fast at a track day so I can race a 600 no problem. I learned very quickly that 1. racing is not a track day, and 2 riding the limit of a 600 puts you on your ass quickly, easily, and spectacularly. I then finally got the Motard race prepped and it was a whole new ball game. I figured out how to pass in just about every corner (thats important in racing!), going bar to bar through a corner isn;t even a second thought anymore, and finishing in the top half and much better is a lot more fun. There are lots of guys on here who started on 600s and are doing well and love it. However, as general advise learn to race on a small bike before trying to go fast on a bigger one, it'll save you mucho dollars, ER visits and frustration.

if you're a pussy, don't start on a 600
wait, what?

Re: Lt. Wt. twin VS. Middle Wt. I-4???
I am stubborn, fairly young, and arrogant. I'm going to race my 600.

Re: Lt. Wt. twin VS. Middle Wt. I-4???
If you can race an inline fast, you can race most anything else fast. Learning on it is much harder and much more expensive, and even after you learn it's still much more expensive. Compare my $350 spent on race tires this season (rains) to my $3,500+ spent on tires in a season on a 600.
Transitioning to a 600 from a lightweight is also difficult, I'm sure Stupidhawk can tell you more about that, the competition is more fierce, the throttle is more touchy, and the mistakes are far less forgiving.
edit: less forgiving to your wallet and your health.

Well... I have the bike basically secured... But it's not the 600. Keith's 600 is staying right where it is. It would make one hell of a track day bike, but I'm well past the age where I want to re-learn survival skills. If I just wanted to do some track days, I would just keep the 750. I just wanna learn to race and have some fun.
I'm going with the Sv. :beerbang:
All the advise is much appreciated...

Re: Lt. Wt. twin VS. Middle Wt. I-4???
its not injected is it?
ive raced or ridden on the track:
SV (1st and 2nd gen)
GSXR750 ( 2 or 3 of them various years)
SV1K
Duc 996
GSXR 600
a tractor
CRF450
Husky 6 something
KTM 5 or 6 something
i tried a hawk but wookie rearended me before i could do 1 lap
R6 (99 and 08 and whatever arcy has)
i think theres more but im old and cant remember
i LOVE my SV. it feels more rewarding for some reason. when it all comes together right its a blast. im sure a bigger bike feels the same when it comes together. ive had fun on bigger bikes but i always have more fun on my SV. at trackdays i like to take out other bikes just to try out something else. motards are fun and so are 600s, buts theres nothing like going fast on smaller bike. youve ridden you GSXR around and i can tell you that the power of a new 600 is the same as your old gsxr. not many gear changes, unless your stupid fast. amanda hated riding her 750 because it was boring. i gave her the SV and she has a blast, she had even more fun on mine.

Re: Lt. Wt. twin VS. Middle Wt. I-4???
Oxx, what's wrong w/ the injected gen?
All my research on the WERA board says the first gen's chassis is MARGINALLY better, but the updates on the 2nd gen make it worth considering.

Re: Lt. Wt. twin VS. Middle Wt. I-4???

1 gen bottom end and frame w/ 2nd gen top end (from what I hear)
