Hi Guys,
What size tire can I fit on a 4.25 in rim? I have a set of motard wheels for the YZ and I need tires. I am assuming that I should put a 150/60/17 on that rim.
Can I put a 160 on or am I better off with a 150?
The front wheel is a 3.5 so I am assuming I want a 120/70/17. Is this true?
The rear wheel is 4.25 so I am assuming that I want a 150/60/17. Is this true?
Thanks for the help.
Nathan
That front is correct and I think you might be ok with a 150 or 160 on rear to be honest. I used a 160 rear on a 5" rim and that was pretty perfect, I would try a 150 to be honest but I'm not sure how available those are in good rubber.

I ran a 160 rear on my 04 YZ when i used to race, and it was a 4.25" rim. Chain to tire slap "shouldn't" be an issue with your YZ and running that combination. If it is an issue, get a Graves chain block and never have a chain scuffed tire or rim again![]()
Yamaha
the 150 Has a better profile on a 4.25 rim.
a 160 Has a weird profile. as its designed for a larger rim.

Pirelli make a 160 slick that works.

I have a set, when do you need them? They would be free.
If you are at the races come see me.
I have to say you might be better off getting a new fresh set - they last so long on lightweight Motards especially for track days...
$300 bucks can get you track day spec race compound new tires (quick warm up/ impervious to heat cycles etc etc).

Dunlop 125 in the front 165 in the rear
Ever been on the track before? Your pace will decide the tires to some extent, a newbie track guy will be fine on some racer take-offs. A fast guy, maybe not so much?
Yes, I have been on the track before during track days. I usaully run in the middle group.
Thanks,
Nathan
Michelin Power One. 120/70-17 and 150/60-17

I switched them out for rains a while back and now going to try out the new Pirelli Track Day slicks - On my other Motard I am currently running Dunlop Slicks.
On a motard ymy tack off's will last you a few track days.. longer if you are just starting track days.
these tires have only run track days. they are the top of the line Diablo Supercorsa DOT race (like the WorldSSport guys run)-
again if you are at the upcoming race week end - you can have them - bring your rims and will even fit them - stop by the Pirelli garage and ask for graham.

Graham,
I really appreciate the offer but I will not be able to get to the track this weekend. I just can't. It sucks.
I wish I could get the rims there just to make my life easier. I have spoons though so I can do it. It sounds like KB will be able to get me a set of tires.
Thanks for the help.
