Just throwin something out to you NESR Racing guys.
I'm still in the process of tryin to get into racing this season, but due to the lack of job and more importantly health insurance it doesn't look like I will be able to start for the next couple months.
The plus side is that I have all sorts of free time.
Would you guys be interested in a person who is mechanically inclinded (I do all my own work minus Ducati Desmo valves) to help out during a race weekend or two doing virtually anything that needs to get done? (great cook too)
I figure it would get me somewhat familiar with how the racing goes and what to do/not to do. No compensation, no food, no pit passes, nothing. I'll pay for it all myself.
I don't know how this would sound to you guys, but I figured I would toss the idea out there to see if there was any interest.

Everything's done by volunteers. Anybody who's gracious enought to offer their time is welcomed with open arms. And to me, it sounds like you just volunteered...
Welcome aboard, mang!
Did you grit your teeth and try to look like Clint Fuckin' Eastwood?
Or did you lisp it all hangfisted like a fuckin' flower?
Nice! Just shoot me a PM a couple weeks before the races with info on what I should bring, when I should be there, etc. I'll gladly help out!

Clayton, thanks for offering.
First race weekend is April 24/25
Come and hang out. We need people who are competent with changing wheels etc, nothing too technical. Occasionally we need to do some other work (if a motor breaks or a crash occurs)
We REALLY need help with setting up and dismantling the pit area. These things tend to happen on a Thursday evening and Sunday at about 6 or so. I know Thursdays are a problems for most people. How close to the track are you?
derek
I'm about 3 hours away. With no work schedule, I'm pretty free during the week so Thursday's wouldn't be a problem. I have my own tent and tons of camping equipment also, so if camping at the track is a better way to do it, I could do that also.

Camping is definitely the way to go.
Jay can set you up with an nesrracing email address so you will have all the info on what/where as we plan things.
derek
That's awesome Clayton...thanks for volunteering. There's always tons to do around the pit area...from changing tires to safety wiring to adjusting all the bits (chain, levers, etc). We also need people to clock lap times, man the pit board, get grid positions, get fuel, etc. We'll keep ya busy. It's a great way to get familiar with the track and how the whole process works.
Hey, anytime guys. This way I can learn about the proper way to safety wire, proper edicate around the track, best practices in the pits, etc etc. Should be fun!

take it from me, it's a blast!
might also wanna consider cornerworking @ some point... can be a lotta work, but definitely gives ya a worm's eye view of the action.
(not to mention that it might give you a real feel for what dem guys w/ the flags are going through once you become a racing demi-god...)
WWSD? (what would Sneakers do?)

Nope, I moved back home when I graduated back in December. I'm right on the NH line near Keene.
