Dumbass!
World Championship #2 in the making
World Superbike here we come!
Bemused
He'll stay until Ducati found a more competitive rider.
Some people voted for world champ#2. Who thinks it was a smart move? Why?
I'm skeptical, but his recent results a a glimmer of hope. He does seem genuinely happy, but that could be because he landed a factory ride. I don't think he had any other factory offers! If his results falter though, I think it will end his motogp career. It's starting to look like there's not much hope for corn fed americuns in the 800cc era.
he's staying because he was asked to. besides, where else would he go? all the other factory seats are sold except..... repsol. not going back there. i think he would have taken a satellite ride before going to wsbk. but with that being said, i would have loved to see him in toselands seat on the tech 3 rather than back on the duc. i think the ducati team realized that he is pretty much the best of whats left. although, thank god nick is a classy guy. i know i would be pretty pissed after seeing all the offers made to everyone else on the grid before they moved on his option.

In case you did not see this: http://www.motogp.com/en/news/2009/d...gether+in+2010
i think it was the best move he had offered to him. the recent results do show hope, but as he has proved, championships are won over the entire season. i don't see another world title in his future, not in gp anyways. i dont think there is any way he would have saw another factory offer except maybe suzuki, but even that may have been a stretch.
as far as americans in gp.... well, i think spies is going to do pretty damn well on the yamaha. hear me out. i'll try to be brief. three factors come into play for ben as i see it (in no special order). 1. the rookie rule 2. yamaha 3. wsbk championship
1) he has to go to a satellite team to start. the best bike on the grid right now is yamaha. if he goes up to gp for 2010, he goes to tech 3. lorenzo only has a 1 year contract, and rossi's 2 year contract ends after next season. that potentially opens up 2 seats on the factory yamaha. lets face it, some day the rossi retirement rumors are going to be true. so for ben, satellite in 2010, get your feet wet. 2011 factory ride and bring us another title, you have huge shoes to fill.
2) yamaha owns ONE of the tech 3 seats. so ponchrael (or whatever his name is) gets to choose one rider, yamaha gets to choose one. so yamaha could sign ben for 2 years right now.... and i think they could contractually state that they will decide what series he runs in. which he would most likely accept because he's either getting a kick ass r1 or an m1. what i mean is, after he signs, if he wins the wsbk crown, move him to tech 3 in gp. doesn't win the crown, keep him in wsbk.
3) based upon #2, if he doesn't take he wsbk championship this year, he's not moving up.

Sadly, Nicky won't be a champ again with Jorge and Rossi around.

NO LIMIT
I wanna say I'd like to see him go to another team but the reality is, where would he go? In this economy, there aren't 15 teams out there looking to pay riders...so I think its an obvious/good move. I hope he does well.
