How strict are they on the number plates dimensions?
It's going to be tough to squeeze a 12 x 10 area on my front fairing, I was considering off-setting it to the left side of the nose, but before I paint this weekend I was lookign for some ideas or pictures of your set-ups.
the front numbers need to be 8" tall and and 1" spacing between each number.
here is what my front number plate looks like

What are you racing? GSXR like in your sig?
Ya got plenty of room.
If you want examples, hit up lrrsracing.com - look through the results, find someone on the same bike you have, get their race number, go to Owens Racing Photos and plug their number into the search field..... shazam, pics of them on their bike to use as an example.

BIG discussion on the SIDE plates over on the Near list.
They want the 10x12 PLATES there, and no 6 inch numbers![]()

well according to the rule book you need 12x10 uninterrupted from air intakes, etc. and the numbers have to be 8" tall.
The pic above of the gsxr does not have 10" between the air intakes and the windscreen, and I would prefer not to paint the windscreen. The numbers above were cut at the air inlets. So apparently, there's some gray area, I don't see guys driving around with pitboards screwed to the headlight.
The racer above is an expert who holds many national chapionships and also races AMA. If you're assuming you'll be treated the same as him you're in for a major wakeup call. The rule book has the rules in it, and they're called the rules because they're the rules. Follow them and you'll be fine, it's that simple.
It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?
If you don't like stupid answers don't ask stupid questions. "The rule says 12 X 10, do I have to do 12 X 10?"
I didn't say you'd be treated like less of a person, i said you won't get special treatment, so don't go changing my words.
"WTF I shouldn't have to track down chat's to find out what's acceptable"
What's acceptable is in the rule book, it's not that difficult. And you don't have to 'track down' chats when they're posted on the organizations website. That's WTF.
It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?
hey, ya fuck... I'm asking a question, that made perfect sense... where did you see me ask if I had to make it 12x10? I asked how people squeezed them in on a gsxr front end. The only pic that was posted, although helpful, seems to go against regulations due to the air duct.... you either suck at reading, or struggle with the intraweb.
My original post is as follows, please point out where I asked if I could use a different size.
Yeah, go easy. I have an RS125 and there is no WAY there is 12x10 worth of space. I think its legit to ask just HOW seriously he should take the rule. I'd say put 8" numbers on the front, and use just as much as you possibly can for the plate to get as close to the rule as possible. The tail seems to be the place they're always looking to enforce because the scorers have an understandably hard time reading the numbers if they're facing up as with the newer inline 4 bike tail designs make them do. I might get chastized for this, but I say do your best.

How strict are they about the rules? How many times do you want the answer? They follow the rules. Ya fuck. Good luck at the racetrack, i'm sure you're going to have lots of friends.

make it as big as you can. you might not "want" to paint the windsheild but if you have to paint the bottom 3-4" to fit the #s then you have to. i dont know if mine is 12x10. i picked #s that didnt take up much space ex: i asked for 111, 777 etc. i got 110 and it fits pretty easy. tape your #s on the front and scetch out a backround. the front isnt as much as an issue as the rear.
When I start my KTM in the morning, rules are broken. Its inevitable...

Kitt,
If this is a "looks" issue your barking up a bad tree. Slap a 10x12 plate on the front and the sides with 8 inch RED numbers and you will be golden.
If you want to skirt the rules put the biggest, clearest numbers you can find on your bike and HOPE you pass tech. Painting a little bit of your windscreen to make a bigger spot shouldn't be a such a big deal, Or maybe you can get some white vinyl or duct tape to help with the white background.
The sides are DEFINATELY the bigger issue, It looks like not many of us are gonna pass unless we bolt the big plates on back there.
And a little bit of advice... People with Yellow plates and black numbers know more than we do, listen to them.

Thanks, that was my only concern... I'm painting the plates on, and was trying to avoid painting the windscreen... different prep. but may have to...
Because you mis-interpreted a message bpoard post I won't have friends at the race track? haha... usually the guys running around trying to give the guys asking the honest questions a hard time are the arrogant ones without friends. I have plenty of friends who race, who base their opinions of me on things besides defending myself from asking a question.
What happenned to "there's no dumb questions" when somebody is starting out? I guess you just read the rulebook and assumed you knew all. I was looking for ideas on how to fit it, not exemption of the 12x10 rule.
Yea, I think I may end up painting it... don't want to risk them turning down the bike for the plate crossing the air ducts.
Def. not a looks issue, just looking for ideas and options of how to squuze it on.
Fortunately, I think my tail will fit a 12x10 on the tail no problem, but I thought I remember a "vertical" requirement.
and yea, I take constructive criticism from people of all levels (especially amatures with 30+ races)... if an amature is trying to be a wise guy on the internet, i have no problem asking him to re-read my post and tell me where he mis-quoted me from.
Don't worry bout it Kit, I've seen thousands of dumb questions asked by Doc and i'm sure he'll ask thousands more.
asking questions & getting your balls busted comes w/ the territory.
