I am in the market for Tire warmers, As I have been shopping around I keep coming across TYRESOX for 175 Shipped or even Less. 1/2 The price of Chicken Hawk and other brands. However when I at the races I dont see ANY in the pits or anywhere else. It seems no at NHIS is using them so whats the deal. Are the Good or Not. is there something I dont know
Please let me know as I am confused. I would rather pay 400 for warmers that work instead of 175.00 for ones that Dont
Let me know you expeirience with these
Thanks
tyre sox are inferior to chickenhawks. Sport Bike Track Time sells warmers made for them by chickenhawk. Tire Bakers by woodcraft are also good. Yeah, they all cost more than tyre sox. But tire sox are a 2-piece design, requiring you to put on a separate outside insulator. All the others are a 1-piece design with quality nomex buit into them. Some have adjustable thermostats or allow you to change the thermostat for the type of tires you're using.
I'm not going to s that tyre sox don't work. I made it for a season with them but I don't reccomend them. I still keep them just in case something comes up but I use them secondary to my chickenhawks.
check ebay. Sumimoto is from japan and a friend of mine has them and they work well and they aren't overly expensive. Just remember that (unless you forget to unplug them off the bike) tire warmers are a one time purchase.
hope that helps.

It's worth the investment.
worth the investment but if you are short on cash and dont want to race without warmers then tyre sox will work just fine. you dont HAVE to put on the insulators but they work better with them on. i think Heath runs them and ive used them before. just keep an eye out. now that its the off season you can find used warmers chaep. also check out Tomahawk.. the guys that make those colored tires... they sell chicken hawk knock offs cheaper

How about Moto GP or DMP?
Anyone have experience with those?

Go with Chicken Hawk. For about $200 you can find a decent used set.
I have had both those and Suzuka. Suzuka is inferior in quality IMHO.

Suzuka's are made by Chickenhawk.

I have suzukas and like them more than the chicken hawks or tire bakers. Tyre soxs are crap.
It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?
To me they seem a lot thinner material and insulation wise. Also the fabric tears a lot easier than the CH.Originally posted by Karaya One

Anyone want a set? Brand new basically, used for two race weekends. I'll be switching to CH if I can find a set within my budget.

I've been using Digital Bakers for the past two years and think they're great. They tell you exactly the temp of the tire though a LED read-out for each tire and let you set the desired temp for rain tires and such.
i dont put tire warmers on rains..... seems pointless

if not ... my understanding is, its almost more important to put warmers on rains
getting the heat into the bands/core of the tire is imporant and that is going to be hard to do on the track.
the more heat you can get into the core of the tire, the better you chances are of keeping the tire heated as much as possible while racing on it.

I never use warmers on rain tires. The tire will only get heat cycled and lose some of it's grip as a result. The tire is made to heat up quickly when you ride. As soon as you roll the bike out the garage and to the pits, the water on the ground will cool it off. I go out with cold tires and heat it on the warm up lap then just go.
Pete--I never said to use the warmer BEFORE going out.
Utilizing warmers on tires AFTER a race/practice is good habit as it allows the tires to cool gradually and avoid a full heat cycle.
Brubaker told me at Daytona last year not to use warmers on Rains so I don't. When I come in there is steam coming off the tire and it's hot to the touch. I just let them cool and go again.
its so interesting on who says what ... i have no idea what is right or wrong
the information I got was from Sto at motorace about using the warmers on the rains

Heh, I love tire voodoo threads. Ask 10 different people, get 10 different answers.
Next week we'll be discussing motor oil, petrolium based vs synthetic and for the Holidays how about a nice " If Don't Plan on Crashing, Do I Really Need to Wear Protective Gear?" thread????Originally posted by Honclfibr

The problem with that is we first must define which method of Octane measurement we are going to use. There is the Research method, Measurement method and the R+M/2 that is most commonly seen at the pump. Where do we start???????Originally posted by hessogood
