Penguin School Setup Questions

So I have done a bunch of track days in the past, but never a school on a race weekend. It says you can just show up at 7:00 and register. Do we use the garages or do I need a canopy or something? I know I have to bring food and drinks for the day. I'll probably just drive up in the morning as the Red Roof is full and $50-$60 is about my max to consider staying up there. I wouldn't be opposed to camping out tonight, but I am not really an experienced camper. I have a tent and the basics but might be more trouble than it's worth since it would probably be dark by the time I would be setting up anyway. Any thoughts from the experienced crew?

i camp at the track, all i bring is a cooler/tent/sleepingbag and typical "daily" stuff. they have showers up there, and power is available so bring shop lights and stuff. thats what i would suggest.

garages are rented out, i'm not sure about just using one on friday but i wouldn't bother and bring and ezup if you have one. if its dark out and you need help unloading or whatever people are usually more than willing to lend a hand.

I am starting to entertain this idea. How do you enter the track on Thursday evening/night? They have someone at the gate until a certain time? Then I just find a piece of grass to pitch my tent? It seems like everyone has their turf all staked out by this time of the season. It would just be for tonight so not sure how many people even show up this early. Thanks.

yea showing up tonight is no different than showing up tomorrow morning....after 6 or so (not sure what time) its the same gate fee as the next day as well.

the gate fee caught me off guard when i first went too haha...though i guess its pretty obvious there would be one.

i'm pretty sure if you show up tonight, they'll give you a bracelet thats only good for friday for like $10

dont hold me to that though, but i know when i've shown up on thursday nights before they only charged me $35 for the weekend (10 for fri, 25 for sat/sun). Since you show up after all thursday's events, i dont think they tack thursday onto the gate fee

Thanks for the feedback. Official word is $35 at the gate after 6 PM and receive $20 back if out before 7PM on Friday.

yeah, but make sure you are out by 7 sharp. when my dad took the race school this year we pulled up to the gate at 7:03 and they wouldn't give him his refund. we were abit slow packing up seeing as i had just broken my elbow and wacked my head on the track....the cashier was unsympathetic
