wasting it at the track?
wtf??
dude you are going to be racing ... probably one of the times where you might want the best helmet you can buy (my spec-1r saved my life).
to answer your question (or you can just read the rule book)
Helmets
Polycarbonate helmets are not allowed.
Helmets may not be more than 5 years old as determined by the date of manufacture in or on the helmet. Helmets must be full coverage with an attached face shield. Tear-off's are not allowed. Quick release helmet straps are also not allowed unless original equipment. The helmet must meet DOT plus Snell approval or the British Blue Label standard BSI 6658 Type A helmet standard or the European ECE22-04 & ECE22-05 P standard. The appropriate stickers must be attached. Any helmet that has been damaged or suffered a severe impact must be replaced or sent to the manufacturer to be inspected. All helmets must pass tech inspection. The riders number must be displayed on the helmet.

its your head and your money...
You can waste one or the other how you want !
Me I'd waste the money. Work a bit more and you get it back.
i got one with all the fancy graphics. iwant to get another helmet with plain colors. Not going to the cheapest ones on the market, just going to look for something else. I've gone down in low dollar helmets and high dollar helmets. Only thing i know i want to steer clear of is the HJC cs/cl and the scorpions. my scorpion helmet didnt work too well lol. May look at an rf-1000 or something.
RF1k is a good lid. I loved mine, saved my head/face a couple times.
As long as you stick to the rulebook you'll have a safe lid.

nah ive crashed enough to know the benefit of a good lid. not looking for cheapest, just not worth as much to me haha. a good 300 dollar helmet with no graphics is what id probably be lookin at! lol
Just get a solid color rf1000. You can get them for like $300. A lot of places have closeouts on some of the graphics ones, like the Buckmaster replica, which no one seems to want also. Just make sure that the date of manufacture isn't that old.
