they were most likely referring to a lightweight bike(650 twin, EX, perhaps a 125cc 2-smoke?? ...ok ok prob not that last one) vs. a middleweight bike (R6, GSXR, CBR). not a physically lighter motorcycle.

when they say "lightweight" they mean the class the bike is in at the track, not the physical weight of it...

If you hit up the LRRS website you can read their rulebook. Its not real long and explains the classing and everything.

yeah ive read it... even did my rookie race... was just making an observation about what i thought was a reference to getting a bike because it was lighter...

i understand that the 650 is going to be easier to handle and learn on vs a 600 because of power delivery.

    racing questions

I hate to break the flow...but I just picked up on this thread and have been mulling the same issues and getting into racing. I was planning to do the Penguin Advanced school again (did it last August) on 8/31, and then a rookie race on 9/1. Maybe not the best idea if my license will expire at the end of this year. If I do Penguin on 8/31, and the rookie race, do I need to repeat the rookie race next Spring to get my license? Or is it just a simple renewal process (i.e. paperwork and $)?

nope, once you get a license you just need to renew it for next year. taking the advanced school isn't a bad idea, but a lot of the stuff will be over your head unless you've done a bunch of track days. i took the adv school before my rookie race too....it definitely helped, but i'm gunna be taking it again coming up this next race weekend (hopefully) cuz i know i didn't learn as much as i could have.

but yea, you'll be all set....c'mon out and have some fun

Fortunately, I've done several track days...and even made it to the Schwantz School in June. I wish I had the time to devote to a full season, but I think I'll have to pick and choose when I can actually race. I'm looking forward to 8/31...would have hit Tony's that week but my schedule cleared too late.
Thanks for the info. I've found everyone to be really friendly and helpful. I'm sure that I'll have more questions. Hope to see you 8/31.

its been a cheap season for me this year as last year i spent WAAAY too much $$. i bought a bus, suspension...a bunch of other crap. anyways.... i do 1 race p/weekend which is $50, $50 at the gate (me my G/F), <$20 for the required VP fuel (less or nothing if you do well), and i just bought new tires last weekend for the first time since before the end of last season $325 (well $225 because i had $100 in Dunlop $$)

if you take the word replicate literally... in that there will still be a few hawks missing. mine and a13x's at a minimum. perhaps the family stone as well.

at the time that pic was taken there was only 1 hawk missing, mitch's
