    Riding Defensive and Blocking

    Who does it and when?

    Why?

Is it necessary in club racing?

Is it just part of the fun with your friends?

Personally I ride my line. If you can get by I won't block you. If I know you are there I am going to try and stay in front but I am not going to change how I ride to make it more difficult for you to pass.

I have yet to knowingly be "blocked" If I ever am and I know it I think it would just tick me off.

    Discuss.

    Re: Ridng Defensive and Blocking

Ive been told Im tough to pass. I ride my ride and rarely change my line. Maybe Ill take a tighter 6 or a wider 1 if I know someones there. Otherwise, I count on me going faster than them.

    Re: Ridng Defensive and Blocking

Blocking comes into play when you are racing with some for points and they are within a 1/2 or 1/4 second of you times wise. Just using nice tight entry lines is all it takes, but you need to be able to hold the exit line and be as good with the throttle as you are when not blocking. It racecraft. You can also block after making a pass just to keep the guy behind you, or to convince him that you're the one in charge of the line and the race.

Doc - Isn't the point of racing to finish ahead of as many people as possible? If not wouldn't it just be a track day? So with that being said, wouldn't you want to block to finish higher if the guy behind you is faster?

To me is a friendly competition... but a competition nonetheless. If a guy is a second faster than you per lap there isnt much you can do, but if hes only a few tenths faster you can hold him up and gain that extra spot... no reason in just handing out positions in my eyes, but also no reason to be a dick either if you cant do it safely.

answer is (IMO) as long as you're running smooth lines, no prob... run wide, ok. sudden moves and blocks, bs.

now on the dirty bikes, thats a different story

No doubt. I have a tractor and access to a mini-excavator... I haven't ridden dirt in years but I wouldn't mind picking it up next summer.

    BINGO.

"Making yourself wide" is a delicate art form. One that I'm still learning.

Yep. Just a bunch of friends trying to see who is faster while improving your riding ability.

As I have been told for years. The only real racing is the Expert class (or higher and then expert is not real racing). The others are just development classes.

He right. Its why I will stop in the "race" at some point in the 3/10 split for a sandwich and some koolaid. If I was actually racing Id do all 8 laps without a break.

As for the blocking thing. Nazo is pretty good at it. I let him know next time Im punting him

You and I had to deal with it when we were NV/AM.

Lol... Right, because the color of your plates automaticaly makes you a real MAN racer. I've seen a few people with black and whites that should be in NV!

Yes the white color with black numbers makes you an EXPERT. It says you have matured enough to race with the adults and you aren't cherry picking the lower ranks anymore and are now happy to play with the big boys (and girls). Sure there are some whose times might put them in Novice but they are NOT Novice.

Dude. Don't get your panties in a bunch. You will be a "real" racer soon enough and then you too can pick on the lower ranks. :

    Until then... Shut up Amateur.

Not an art form. Just eat more cheeseburgers.

I get the old "Damn dude I just couldn't get around you, you were riding real defensive lines"

I didn't know I do it but it's just "my" line. I guess I don't like geting passed. Kind of just the way I ride. No douchebag lines just defensive. Especially if I know you are back there. Go ahead and get around me if you can!!!
