    Rookie Race crashes.

So... has anyone EVER crashed and NOT got their license?

I was SO afraid of crashing during my rookie race and that I would have to take the school over If I crashed I literally just rode around at a slow trackday pace.

    Anyone else?

Are you referring to the guy that crashed in the rookie race on Friday?

I was curious if he still got his license...

He did and won the MW race on Sunday. A crash doesnt disqualify you from getting you license. I think its how you crash. Probably a little more give this weekend because of the temps too.

Yeah, they basically told us that they would look at each crash on an individual basis to determine whether that person would still get their license.

    Good to hear.

I just remember being told "You crash, no license." Just curious. I can't say for sure that it was Penguin that said that... It was most likely the group in Arizona I did my Rookie School through.

This has NOTHING to do with anyone that may have crashed this weekend.

They gave me my license even though I went the wrong direction and hit Mike head on at T10. I just said I couldn't see him around the barriers.

    Re: Rookie Race crashes.

We take each guy and give them a reasonably comprehensive interview after the fact. There have certainly been riders who have been denied a license....but typically only 1 person per season....sometimes less, sometimes more.

Knowledge of all the safety procedures, the basic school test score, attitude, reason for the fall....are all taken into consideration.

Yes, we tell people "you crash, no license". It is to make the point that they need to do things right. I feel that blanket policies are unreasonable, and that people deserve individual consideration. However, "you crash, maybe license...." would not have the same effect in the classroom.

The rider in question this weekend was fine during the race weekend, and yes, we do try to keep track of that stuff.

The dude who crashed in his RR is a NESR regular, avid and quick trackday rider, and a really nice dude.

    I know who it is.

His crash is not in question, Nor is his recieving his license.

I was just curious as to the procedure and Eric has cleared that up.

    Sounds good to me.

Right - wasn't trying to question him personally... was more asking about the "crash = no license thing"

    Thanks for the clarification Eric.

yup I remember hearing that for years really so as I was sitting there in !a I was wondering if I was gonna be able to race. when I went to get my license they did talk it over with me then with each other and I'm grateful they let me get it.

I know you didn't mean this thread to be about me but I understand how this situation can bring up the question in you or anyone else's mind about it.

Once Eric came over and saw Brett's formerly brand-new paint job, he understood that it was the racing gods' will for him to crash as fast as humanly possible.

Once that was done and dusted, the stars were aligned once more and Brett continued to dominate.

did he come over and look at it or is that just to make the story sound better?

No one told you to hit the lower with something to scratch the paint.... Damn that thing must have had some pavement attraction all shiny and stuff.. You should blame an expert for not telling you of the pavement to paint attraction..

When are you going to stop crying about your bike being "underpowered"?!?!! 50HP is more than enough to get you around Loudon! I never hear Gino complaining...

50hp is underpowered for a hawk (about 70-100lbs heavier than a 'tard). however my stock motored hawk put down 54 rhp with a pipe and properly setup carbs so they've got a little north of 50 if they're maintained. it's not that bad - just puts the emphasis on cornering.

now. a 700cc hawk is a different story. they're 70-75rhp as nearly everyone at loudon has them built (so they're still rather reliable). and if you do your homework it's fairly easy to get it sub 320lbs. that plus properly setup suspension makes for quite a nasty little weapon. gino's had his into the low 17s. personally, i've always wanted to see what wood/greenwood/etc would do on a proper 700 hawk around loudon. i'm betting they'd get 14s easy.

I am not complaining... who said I was complaining?

My bike no longer has 50hp... closer to 70 now and the bike is not the reason I am slow.
