Greetings All. Several of us have been talking about LRRS lately and we came up with an idea to help bring new riders along, but we need the help of some experienced & willing riders to make it happen. As many of you know, there has been a Rookie garage offered to first time racers in the center garage for the first race weekend that they have. The idea was to get them in one place and put them near a bunch of other riders. It has been good, but for 2015 we were thinking of taking it a step further. If there were a list of riders who were willing to offer to be a Rookie mentor for the weekend and offer up a (1) garage space for these riders, it would plug them together with a group of current LRRS riders who can help them throughout their entire first weekend. Things as simple as knowing where to be and when, things to watch for and friendly practice and race advice can go a long way to making a successful first weekend. Plus, getting to know a group of riders that they perhaps would not meet otherwise has a number of positive benefits.
The needs for any given weekend is typically between 3-6 riders (with the first, second and last weekends usually the busiest). So, what we're looking for is a list of volunteers who'd be willing to mentor new riders. All that you'd need to do is be around to meet them on Friday night (we'd assign names and garages when we do licenses Friday night) and to allocate them a single spot in your garage. The goal is to get a group of 8 LRRS riders (Mentors) that we could refer guys to, and these 8 riders might each have someone to mentor for 3-4 of the LRRS weekends. We're going to take one in our garage - anyone else interested in helping can either respond here or email info@penguinracing.com.
Thanks - just over a month and counting!
I still think they need a little hazing, but might exposing them to experienced racers be going too far?Good on you for the idea, my first round was a mess. The Friday night license/race entry may have been the worst of it.

RSP Racing pretty much already does that. I'm sure others do as well. It would be nice to something organized going on.

Also, I wouldn't count out mentors who don't utilize the garages. There is a lot to be learned from infield-dwellers like the Low Down Racing guys in T1A, etc.

Great idea Eric!
This year we had 28 expert podiums (including 10 wins) and 6 expert championship podiums (including two wins). We all worked hard this year and I'm very proud of what my brothers on Low Down Racing accomplished. I'm sorry we didn't earn your respect in the process.

I think this is a great idea. I have been planning on starting lrrs this year and I can say that the most intimidating factor in my mind right now is just sorting everything out on that first day. I have read the rule book a few times but it is a lot to take in on paper. My thanks in advance to all the people im sure I'll be asking lots of annoying questions to.![]()
I knew that there was certainly some of this "mentoring" going on around the paddock, but I do want to get something a little more formal in place to for the guys who do not have a good fortune to know someone in one of these groups of riders when they first start. We've got three riders who have emailed me and volunteered to help over the weekend, anyone else here who would be willing to put themselves on the list?
Put me on your list please. CMP is fostering rookies and we'd love to help others get going in the sport. Garage space and friendly advice is easy stuff.

Eric put BT1R down. Space is going to be a bit tight in Center 2 this season but I am sure we could make room for a rookie and help him/her out even if it meant having to travel to the infield or a couple garages down from us. We would be happy to help out Penguin and return the favor for all of the support you guys have given us over the years
