    Novice Mentors

So I was recently told that they have Mentors for Novices assigned (volunteer) in WMRRA. (Washington)

    Has LRRS ever done this?

    If not. Why not?

If so. When did it stop.

I think it is a damn good idea to have a mentor your first year at the track.

    What do you guys think?

    Re: Novice Mentors

I was lucky enough to unofficially have one....just people I pitted around....but I can pretty honestly say that they were a major factor in how fast I am, the fact my bike still runs, and the fact that I am still alive.

I'd volunteer for that for sure.

    Re: Novice Mentors

I help anyone with a HAWK. Does that count?

It pulled a 07 AM achievement and could possibly be repeated in 08. All of this following my 06 Achievement under the tutelage of Matt.

    Re: Novice Mentors

HEY! I am not a novice anymore!

I was mentored by the T1a crew Gino, Scott, Alex, Matt, Bob, Mitchell...

And of course the peeps here on NESR!

But I think having a bunch of Experts who would volunteer to show you the ropes and such would be cool.

I will never be an expert so I am out but I would volunteer to do it.

I am gonna ask on the NEAR list too.

    Re: Novice Mentors

i don't know about having a mentor assigned. there are way more of us slow novices than there are fast experts.

i never found there to be any shortage of help at the track though.

    Re: Novice Mentors

yea i mean i wouldn't mind answering any questions i could with new guys, but i basically do that now anyway. i wouldn't want it to turn into a true "mentor-ship" though that could get over bearing

    Re: Novice Mentors

I would just think a naem and a contact for general questions would be good.

Someone to go to in an emergency. ESPECIALLY if you don't know anyone.

    Re: Novice Mentors

All kidding aside, I'm pretty sure most of the experts that have been around for a while already kinda do this. In the case of an "emergency", there are 4 rider reps just for this.

You gotta remember, on race day, the fast experts have their own program to think about.

    (OK, back to the jokes.)

Besides novices and amateurs don't exist!!!! Didn't you get the memo?? It was posted on NEAR.

    Re: Novice Mentors

Doc, I will be entering the race scene this year and have only been to a couple of events but I have met and made friends (aquaintences) with several Veteran racers that are some of the most generous ppl one could ever meet. Some of the other new racers I have been talking to also have similar connections and are well on thier way to a smooth transition because of the "family " atmosphere you guys have continued to have up @ NHMS.

IMO if it was to be formally set up I may not have been hooked up with the Hawk nation and bonded with some of the great ppl I have met due to this Family style of "mentoring" that already happens up @ LRRS / NHMS.

sometimes less is more ..... except when it comes to buying Hawks

Glad to be a part of both the Hawk nation and the LRRS this upcoming season.

    Re: Novice Mentors

I know it is already done on an informal level. And it works!! I was just wondering aloud...

Thanks to this forum and the people I have met here. (I always refer people here as well.) I was just thinking of the little guy that might not have any connections. Maybe Penguin already "mentors" them enough.

    Re: Novice Mentors

Nevermind mentors, they should assign official hazers... The track has gotten so PC. You can't even pick on a novice around here without catching a ration of shit! WTF?!!!

    Re: Novice Mentors

Yea I felt real lucky in having my buddy Matt Stone as a 'mentor'. I would have been buried with shit that first season if it wasn't for him helping to show me the way.

    Re: Novice Mentors

I agree that there is plenty of help at the track for noobs and experts alike. It really depends on the persons attitude/personality.

The Duc camp just as the Chicken coupe...I mean Hawk camp has helped me alot over the last two years. Graham P, Bruce M, Brett G, Gman etc. just to name a few that have showed me the way.
    Cheers, To the LRRS families!

I asked the expert guy pitted next to me questions the first time i went up there for info. But i still didn't have a clue until the second season. Starting out up there is a little tough if you do not know anyone.
