Well, the OP posted about contingency, then he asked about the difference between sponsorship and contingency, then it went to shit when Chris wanted to comment about something he knows nothing about, and talk about his vanilla, paint rollered bike that is neither "well" set-up, nor un-crashed at yellow group track day pace.

it all depends what you're looking for.
you really have to do your homework on these and determine if it's worth it to you.

vortex gives credits for top 3 finishers in the SS classes, but requires their sprockets and big decals on the swingarm, listed as a sponsor on your results sheet, and wants a sponsorship agreement with requires monthly newsletters and patches on your leathers. the vortex credits expire 3 months after they're notified from CCS of your results. they dont mail you certs, or notify you when you get them or when they expire.

pitbull has contingency but now requires you to use their sprockets and steering damper. so if you go with pitbull, then you're not able to use Vortex for contingency.

every tire manufacturer pays contingency except Pirelli, and I'm not getting into that shit show about why.

you really just have to look into what products you want to use, what their terms are, and determine if it's worth it to you.

contingency is a way for a company to say they pay 10 dollars to racers when they actually pay 1 dollar...

I've never used contingencies before. This will be the first year I will be doing them. Should have done them this year too. Could have done pretty well for myself this year.

And I quit racing because I had NO expendable cash

I made a spreadsheet for the cost of next season and was shocked. It was pretty lean, not a lot of "unexpected" costs included except $1K for crash repairs, and it came to an amount that should make me question the sustainability of a race program on my current income.
