    Tire Thread - Racer Edition

X tire is better than Y.

Nuh UH! Y tire is soooo much better!

    Z tire rulez!

The discussion keeps coming up, so lets have a place for it.

May 2014 Tire Prices (120/70R17 front / 180/60R17 rear if not specified):

    Bridgestone BT003RS DOT - $311 a set
    Bridgestone R10 DOT - $390 a set
    Bridgestone Rains - $364 a set
    Bridgestone Slicks (165 rear) - $370 a set
    Bridgestone Slicks (180 or 200 rear) - $404 a set

    Pirelli Supercorsa V1 Trackday DOT - $320 a set
    Pirelli Supercorsa V2 WSS DOT - $415 a set
    Pirelli Rains (190 rear) - $450 a set
Pirelli Superbike WSBK Slicks (160 rear) - $370 a set
Pirelli Superbike WSBK Slicks (200 rear) - $430 a set

    Dunlop D211GP-A USA DOT (190 rear) - $369 a set
    Dunlop D212GP-N UK DOT (190 rear) - $479 a set
    Dunlop Rains (190 rear) - $360 a set
    Dunlop N-Tec US Slicks (190 rear) - $379 a set
    Dunlop N-Tec UK Slicks (195 rear) - $539 a set

Michelin Power Cup DOT (180/55 rear) - $409 a set
    Michelin Rains - $390 a set
    Michelin Slicks (190 rear) - $439 a set

Prices are based on what's on their websites at the moment and may be sale prices, include or not include shipping, etc. I have no idea if that differs from 'racer' pricing at the track or not, etc. Do your own research folks.

Can you cite where your prices are coming from? Are those trackside vendor prices? Installed?

Those are from the 4 LRRS tire vendor websites.

    http://dunlopracing.com
    http://www.gomtag.com
    http://www.motorace.com
    http://www.streetandcomp.com

I didn't delve past the listed prices to see if those were sale prices, trackside prices, if mount and balancing was included, etc. Just what they post to the public. Hence my note about doing your own research as trackside/racer prices may be different, etc.

No one is going to talk about it in here. You have to hijack an unrelated thread and argue it to the death.

Can someone delete the prices? It should be impossible to buy race tires online AND compare pricing. This whole thing needs to be hush hush.

I'm gonna stay on topic. you posting this is not helping me make a decision about trying the Pirelli V2. I'm cheap and the Dunlop GPAs are still more tire than my skill can use. then I see PJ doing this on them and fuuuuuck what do I do

The Supercorsas are AMAZING! I spend the extra $ for the peace of mind knowing that even tho I am not pushing the tires to their 100% potential yet I dont have to worry about them giving out under me while I am pushing them harder

I'm not worried about the Dunlop GPAs giving out from under me, they give good warning when they're at the end of their life. Plus Shane goes pretty damn fast on them. I think I'm gonna pick up a set of the V2s at the Classic to run at some track days right after it.

If you're gonna do this, consider giving them a shot in practice early in the weekend.

I'm assuming you still have usable Dunlop rubber on your bike that you plan to race on at the Classic; I've got no problem mounting the V2's up so you can practice on them Friday AM, and then re-mounting the tires we've taken off so you can race on what you know(assuming you don't decide to just run the Supercorsa all weekend after trying it).

That way you can use those trackdays to really give the different tire a good test, but with three days of racing you might owe it to yourself to try them at the beginning of the weekend.

I put the order in a little while ago. my plan is to run what I have on there for now. not sure how many races the rear will last. then either just grab the V2s and run if I don't have time or maybe get them mounted. the track days are in MI. it's either 3 races and 3 track days or 5 races and 2 track days depending on what I decide to do.

I saw it. Your call, just know that offer stands, I have no problem swapping them around for you so you can try the new stuff in practice, and go back to what you had for the races if you feel you need more time to acclimate. I figure a good trial run on them at the track you're most familiar with may be helpful.

we'll see how the weekend goes. I'm not opposed to trying them in practice or a race.
