That was the bike. I don't know enough about SV's to be able to tell you what canadian means.
As far as the gear pricing. You can get good used suits for $300 which cuts a nice chunk outta that budget.
My gloves cost under $100 (I got 2 pair)
Boots, lightly used under $300
Back protector Used $50
2 Helmets NEW AGV's under $600
Under armor? Free US Army

Having to diet for a week or two before every trackday you do sucks lol

Penguin Basic Racer School *IS NOT* $500. It's mid-200.

One thing I will say to anyone getting a track bike is to not fall into the trap that some people seem to do and buy something "ratty".
I just returned from the Lightning course in New Jersey where speeds can be very high. I have altered gearing, but still tapped out 5th gear and was into 6th for a bit down the straights.
The track is the place where you want the MOST WELL MAINTAINED and PREPARED bike you can possibly have. While the plastic can be scratched up and ugly, please don't allow anything mechanically wrong with the bike.
I'm really shocked by some of the bikes that come into tech with broken throttle tubes, jury rigged master cylinder holders, rusty chains or rotors... etc., and when they're called on it they say... "i don't care, it's only a track bike"
Meanwhile, the bike they tool around on at 50mph around town is in perfect shape.![]()
Although those numbers can all be 100% accurate, keep in mind that there are PLENTY of ways to save big bucks, especially if you're open to buying used gear.
Example: I went the Alex Dunstan route & just picked up a 1200 dollar Dainese suit lightly used from a guy on the WERA forum (forums.13x.com) for just 350 bucks shipped!
As for a bike... EX's go for anywhere between $750 and 2g's. SV's for 2-4g's. Motards for a little more. Duc's for what Jay Root said. They're ALL great race bikes for beginners & experts alike, each one w/ it's own characteristics.
An EX will tote just about anyone around Loudon just fine. Charlie Tarna clocks in at close to 240lbs and he's doing 1:25's on the thing.

You might want to take a look at the LRRS race results and study up on the different classes of bikes and which bikes can run in what class. You may not want to buy a bike that will put you in a class you're not happy with.
