Well, after Peter's seminar, it definitely seals things that I can't really afford to race this year. (Like Peter said Wednesday night, if you can't afford a few extra dollars for certain items, you have no FUCKING business racing) So, that puts me in the "no fucking business" category for this coming season, unless I win the lottery. In which case, I'll buy a racing team . . .(or I find a convenient part-time job to pay just for racing)
So, my question is that I assume that track days (either Tony's or NESR), open sessions, and race days require a good number of volunteers. I looked on the LRRS site, but there wasn't much info there. So, if anyone can point me in the right direction, or to the right people to contact, that'd be sweet.
Another question is do they allow younger kids around the pits, etc??? I'm sure my 9 year old would love seeing the bikes and everything about them. And possibly seeing the races from the infield. Any help would be great.
mmracer37 is our rider rep for LRRS. Contact him through PM or call the number on his sig. His name is Mike, his busiiness is GMD Computrack, NYC.
We need help everywhere (LRRS) cornerworking is amongst the most valuable to us riders.
If you are interested in helping track days, contact Derek or Tony by PM.
After Jersey's incident, we had a sign up sheet for cornerworking, I hope everyone that pledged help will come through.
Thanks in advance, if cornerworkers were not there, we would not be able to race.

Yes, the infield is family oriented. I bring my 2yr old there no problem. Do keep an eye on them, bikes come and go often. We don't want to squish any kids.
Dogs are welcome too, must be on a leash, and must be cleaned up after.

Either cornerworking or LRRS employment. i know they were looking for an assistant starter, not sure if the position was filled or not. That would a great place to be if you have the time to commit. Like dan said PM Mike. Cornerworking you can do as sporaticly as you like, just show up in the morning.
Kids at the track are welcome, and will have a great time. You need to learn the rules and make sure they are either watched closely or well aware of them and abiding by them. It can be a dangerous place for them and everyone else otherwise.
It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?
If you go to the NEAR group there was a lady there asking me about safety and cornerworking.... I can't remember her name.
I am definately gonna corner work this year considering I only have 1 race on Saturday and I don't race Sunday until race 7.I figure I will learn alot watching too!

I'll PM Mike and I will get that ladies name for you.

Before I begin, I'll say taht Peter knows about racing and his informational meeting was undoubtably a real valuable service.
But, what's this I ehar about racing being too expensive? Stop laughing, I'm serious.
The first thing to consider is what "expensive" means to you. $1000.00 a season, $2,000.00, $8,000.00?
Racing can be done cheaper than you think, especially as a novice in a LIGHTWEIGHT class where stock bikes and track day tires will serve you well for at least three weekends.
My first year of racing was pretty cheap.
Bike cost:
$2,000 street bike (MZ Scorpion)
$250.00 Street tires- Metzeler M1s
$350.00 Race tires- Pirellis
$100.00- miscellaneous (safety wire, etc.)
________
$2700.00
Race Costs based on 6 weekends:
$100.00 per weekend (2 races) = $600.00
$20.00 entry fee = $120.00
Lodging= $0.00 (tent in infield)
$20.00 Gas (car and bike)= $120.00
$500.00 miscellaneous
________
$1340.00
TOTAL:
$4040.00 (including bike purchase)
$2040.00 (without bike purchase)
My message is that if you choose the right class, racing CAN be affordable. Of course if these numbers scare you at all, then follow Peter's advice and stay home, becasue thsi is a cheap as it gets.
If you choose to run a 600, you're in a whole other ball park money-wise. Although you can do this rather cheaply as well.
ken said it.
Racing doesn't have to be on the newest, greatest, gsxrcbrzxyzf. I went through 2 sets of tires last year on the ex. So the only other expenses I had was race entries and travel. It can be done on the cheap. Just depends on what your idea of cheap is.
Of course, I'm overlooking any gear costs if you don't already have it.

So Far I don't think I have spent more than $4000 to get where I am.
Have a 1988 Honda Hawk GT mostly sorted with spare rims, rains and updated suspension, new tires et all... me with all the gear and my race license, pre entered for April 28/29 with 4 races.
Plus I am counting the trackdays I have done to get me to where I'm at and gas and such.
Not bad,
3 trackdays, racebike, race gear, race license $4000
Have the most fun that you can on two wheels.... priceless.
There are some things money can't buy, for everything else, theres Mastercard (or visa, american express....)![]()

im sure there is someone in your area that races also and wouldnt mind the $20 for gas to haul your bike. trailers can be cheap too. that Harbor Frieght traler isnt expensive and you could tow that behind anything... like .... a BMW.
my first season:
per season (8 weekends)
license $110
gate fee $160
2 races per w/e $800
$600 2 sets of tires
gas for bike $80
total$1640
you can bring food and camp there so thats cheap. i am racing an SV and only go through about 2 sets of tires a year. when i could afford it i did more races. im sure EXs use about half a set of tires a year. you could get by and no one said you have to be there for every race weekend. just do them when you can afford it.

everyone has pretty much hit the nail on the head.... you CAN race cheap. where it gets tough is being grown up enough to throw in the towel when something goes wrong. the first time you turn your bike into a pretzel, its expensive to fix (can be). and its tough to take the next weekend off. keep that in mind

the first weekend is the real killer as far as cost goes. with the race school, license fees and all the misc. crap you didn't realize you need. assuming you have a bike and gear already, once you get that first weekend out of the way you can race on the cheap. i just run 2 races on sunday usually, arrive sat. and camp over night. i usually spend less 300 bucks for a weekend of fun. ofcourse every so often you will break something or need new tires, that drives the cost up occasionaly.
I'll sell you an '87 dodge pick-up w/ 55k original miles. Full 8' bed, has a ladder rack, and comes with a plow. It runs great just the brake lines need to be bled.
