It's important to remember that not everyone joins the sport with the hopes of being an EX level racer. Some people want to try it, some for a year or two and see how they stack up against others in THEIR class, some do it when the money is there or the free time or the weather or etc etc etc.

Not everyone can excel in that way. Now with the time thresholds, I'm not sure whether more or less will be bumping to expert.

Lets recognize that achievement. Hell even if it is just to stand on the 1-2-3 box and have a picture taken. Maybe they might make the NHMS webpage.

I was pumped when I found out I would be mentioned in RRW (on the website at least, not sure about the pring issue), then I saw it was also copied onto the NHMS site. mentioning the novices in places like these is a great way to motivate new riders to go back again.

I like my fancy paint job, even if its not perfect anymore but I'm my own sponsor so I know that wasn't directed at me (hell I don't think it was directed at anyone in particular).









do any of you who say stuff like novices aren't real racers or anything along those lines go up to novice winners in person and say that wasn't a real win cause its only novice? everyone that came up to me said stuff like good job and congrats. Made me feel good cause I was still a little disappointed in myself even after winning cause my times weren't where I want them to be.

having been a NV that was in a very serious accident and probably should've been in ICU (or worse) but somehow walked away (albeit not at all right for quite a while). I gotta say this is a fucking shitty argument to make. I know what you're attempting to say but fuck. your other points were far better, stick with them. this kinda pisses me the fuck off and shows me how little time you've spent at the track. I can't imagine anyone that's actually known someone who died/was in ICU/... or even just been at the track when everything gets dead quiet for too long making this point.

Sorry to hear about your accident... I certainly didn't intend on pissing anyone off, but if my racing career ended unexpectedly, I personally would like to have something to show for the races I did have a chance to compete in and win.

Novices, want recogntion but they can't expect the same type as the Amatuers when they are not at that level.

Same goes for the Amatuers VS Expert Argument.

Let's have some recognition that helps grow the sport, gets them to race/improve/bump. Awarding a trophy might not be the best way. It might make you want to stay where you are. Maybe that is why they are not giving them out this year?

My novice trophies say "Novice" on them, so they clearly don't have the prestige an amateur or expert trophy would have. I don't buy that true racers would stick in novice to win more novice wood rather than bump to go after amateur and eventually expert trophies.

The existence of novice awards does not diminish the value of expert awards, so why would anybody be against them?

From what I see, a lot of experts don't even care about the wood and much rather take the credit $$$ (like offered last year). No offense but how often have you seed Eric Wood or Narbone (sp) go up and grab a trophy?

Not me. I never thought I would make it out of the Novice (at that time Amateur) rank. 2 years 10 races later. I felt my times were good enough and I had eammassed the right index and completed races to move on up. time to play with the bigs.

Next year I got the AA (Amateur Achievement, I still call it the Amateur Championship.
