Anybody on here using mobil 1 or gtx or anything? I've used it before in a pinch, just wondering... I've read tons of literature on this going either way... in my eyes, weight and viscosity should be consistant, but you always hear the argument that motor oil breaks down at high rpms (motorcycle motors).
Getting expensive to do oil AND tires every weekend.
your better off using the regular dino oil. cheaper to change out and easier for the track to clean up if you pop a case.
how many races are you running each weekend? probably don't have to change it every weekend. but then again, consider it cheap insurance.

motor oilwhats this?
I just used a 20w50 semi synthetic for my bike i only plan on running it for about 2000 miles then i am gonna convert to full synthetic 10w50. expensive, but from what i hear its well worth the extra cost to be able to run it an extra 500+ miles without damage.
this is just from what i read i could be completely wrong and just fucked up my bike royally.
my .02
Castrol 4t..it's all I use, motorcycle specific.
Lots of auto oil has the good stuff removed from them for emission, and fuel economy reasons.
Too old to rock and roll, too young to die.
I have read around about this, and it seems the thing you have to watch out for is to make sure you don't get oil with friction reducers. I was just wondering earlier if synthetic was worth it. Would I see any benifit in preformance (however slight), or is the bonus just that you don't have to change it very often?
used GTX car oil in my 12R years ago when i didn't know any better... caused clutch issuse. i'm a fan of dino juice at the track . easy clean up and it gets changed often enough.
I've been using mobil 1 synthetic and haven't had any issues.
Penzoil 10w40.
It gets changed once or twice a year, depending on how many times I bin it and have to deal with cavitation. (right Pete?)
Works great so far!

In a pinch running car oil is better then running low oil. But - motorcycle oil is designed to work with wet clutches and the gear loading in a transmission.

For every action there is an equal but opposite reaction - and sometimes a scar...

the only topic guarenteed to create more controversy than religion....come to think of it, its exactly the same kind of discussion. Most of us will post up based on what we BELIEVE and there will be precious little 'science' quoted.
And even the experts will disagree.
...doesn't this thread usually roll around in February???
