Some of you already saw this... now that the MBA is done and the job situation is changing, I'm in a place to come back. You knew I wouldn't be away very long
I've Never ridden an SV or raced a twin of any sort... guess I'll have to figure it out. It came from a good stable with fast folks and lots of knowledge so I know it's a good bike. They blew up a superbike motor in it and dropped in a mint stocker so that's good. I figure it's a cheap and fun way to get back into it.
-Right now it only needs a softer spring in the rear, a superbike tail, and to paint the bodywork.
-Will need to pick up an extra front wheel and two rear wheels. (rain set plus rear swap for practice/td vs race)
-Also considering a slipper clutch since I don't blip on downshifts and both my r6 and motard had them.
- It came with some warmers and stands and stuff but it's old... I might buy fresh stuff and sell this stuff
- Also need a transponder and a helmet
- Anything else? I think I'm mostly all set
April and May will mostly depend on how the new job goes, starting in about a week and a half. I think racing will be easier than track days though since the new gig is not as bountiful with paid time off like the old gig.

Chris,
You are more than welcome to use my transponder as needed since I recently hit a $4400 show stopper and will not be in circulation this season.
Congrats...you won't have any problems. I thought the same about my i4s and people said I won't like a v-twin. I like them both for what they have to offer.

That's very generous of you... would you rather just sell it to me so you can get the cash (and then buy another one later)?
Yeah... but you're a much better rider than me. Haha.
I dunno.... the light weight ones? LOL

BTW, engine ice is not race legal, is it? I might have to flush that out.
Pulled the shock yesterday, it's a 700# on the penske. So I'll need to swap that. Sounded like Rick might have a 650# and wanted the 700# so that could work out nicely.

Not willing to sell. Just use it and return it at season's end. We can discuss details if need be but I'd rather offer it to a friend than having it sit for 90 days at a time between chargings.

I have no idea what the spring on the Penske in my SV is. But it was allegedly set up for a much smaller guy than me. Bike is still in storage and I can't look right now. But if you strike out, maybe we can work out an even swap.
congrats
I think you'd be fine without a slipper personally.
Congrats on the bike!

Slipper schmipper. If ya got a grand burnin' a hole in your pocket, go for it. Otherwise, don't sweat it.

This. stomp at will.
Or lift if you're one of those gp shift fancypants.
Also, the ninjas helmet suggestion too. I have an fg17 too, and Id put it up against any of the other standard good helmets, profile/vector/rf1100. It's not the tippety top of the line, but it is awesome.

I think the idle on the bike is already set high for that reason, to keep up cornerspeed too.
I can get one around 6 bills. Maybe you're right though, I'll try riding it first and then if I have trouble I'll switch it.
Another thing I should think about though is a motionpro throttle with the quickest turn setup. I have a not-so-great right wrist and I recall having some issues when I was racing the r6 post-surgery. I'm not sure what's on the bike now but I think it's stock. Again though I'll probably just try to ride it first and see what happens.
So for now, really I just need to swap the rear spring, get the tail and mount that up, paint all the bodywork.
Oh, engine ice isn't race legal, correct? If that's the case I'll need to flush the rad.
That's an attractive price for sure but I'd prefer to go with a corsair V at a good deal, or possibly one of the top end Suomys.

Coolant - water with water wetter only
ps engine ice is just as slippery as any other antifreeze

You and I have different mentalities it seems when it comes to racing, but if it were me I would just run it. My old motard had a slipper in it from day 1 and I thought it was awesome. Now that I have a motard without a slipper in it...I actually prefer not having one.

Maybe we do a bit but not by much. You know me, I sweat details.
That said I'm just going to respring the rear and get the bodywork fitted and painted and just try riding it. That will determine what/if else needs to be done from that point on.
I still need a helmet but don't have any hookups anymore. I'm trying to setup a hookit account since apparently that can get you some discounts. Looking to go Arai or Suomy I think, and of course need a fresh manufacture date, which can complicate things.

Don't poopoo the fg17.
It can be had cheaper than either the aria or suomy (even with the hookit discount) and really is a fantastic lid.
I'd smash my head on the ground with confidence wearing it.

Not poopooing it, just don't want it. I've had other high-end HJC's. Not my thing.
