Not a good week for me when it comes to 2 wheeled vehicles.
For the past week I've been having issues with my headlights/tail lights/running lights/blinkers intermittently going out. Well today I noticed a nasty smell (like rotten eggs) and I thought I was just driving by something nasty. Well next time I stopped it was still there so i shut the bike off to have a look. When I shut the bike off it sounded like the fuel pump was still going. So I hoped on and fired it up and started to head home where I could take stuff apart and figure out what was going on. About 15 mins from my house she let out a huge backfire and died. All electrical completely useless.
I'm figuring its the voltage regulator. Hopefully the dealer will take care of this.

Great.... indefinitely broken
Rectifrier is more like it. After reading around it seems like a lot of 07s are having the same problem. That explains why they are back ordered.

Anyone know if the 848's have the same issue?
If loud pipes save lives, imagine what learning to ride would do.
yup
its been a common issue with almost all ducati sbk's. Seems as though "batch's" of them go bad not all. 1098/848 share the same rectifier as 999's (and pretty sure 749 but can't remember at the moment).

Sorry to hear of your troubles.

is the "rectifier" the same thing as the voltage regulator? I don't see a rectifier in the parts catalog.
aside from the battery getting cooked (the smell), is it likely that anything else got taken out? think I can get the dealer to fix this being that I am not the original owner?

Check with Dunbar Eurosports or BCM Ducati as Im sure they have the regulators in stock. Im 95% that this is the problem and they can take care of it in less then 1 hour. Youll be back riding in not time.

Well, It looks like the warranty will cover it, and it is transferrable. Now I just gotta wait. It looks like I may lose a good chunk of what is left of the riding season![]()

I don't think I've seen a 1098/848, or even a 749/999 fry a regulator. Last I heard of that being a 'common' issue was 748/916/996/ST2 era, and Duc has gotten better about providing proper airflow over the regulators to stop that problem.
What is a GWYS mod? "Give Your Wheels to Someone"?

Ok Dennis that was a good one.
Yeah, Spydah I have to agree though, that wind screen makes that beautiful bike look like a banana!
A smokin' one at that!
Anyway back on topic...
sorry about the bike trouble. Hope its not spread the trouble elsewhere.
Get that thing back on the road!
