1982 Honda CB 450 Nighthhawk carb problem

I have a 1982 Honda CB 450 Nighthawk that has been in storage for the last four years. I removed the Carburetors and gave them a thorough cleaning. I also replaced the spark plugs, oil and fuel filter. The bike idles OK and at highway speeds seems to run good.

The problem is that it runs rough at low speeds and hesitates between 3000-4000 RPM. Also if while stopped and you bring the rpm’s to 2000 the bike sounds like its missing. You can also hear a popping sound while decelerating.

Does anyone have an ideal what the problem might be?

How old is the gas in the tank, and what do the fuel lines look like? It might be worth it to pull the petcock off the tank, clean out the filter, replace all the fuel lines and vacuum lines, replace the gas, and add a second filter in line.

air leak on the carb boots. creating a lean condition. would be my guess

get the bike running at idle and spray some carb cleaner/or ether directly at the little rubber carb boots. if the idle picks up your boots are leaking air. it's a common problem on older bikes pulled out of storage, the rubber gets dry rotted.
