A admission of old age - Work table

I was doing some chain maintenance last week and realized that neither bending over to reach the chain, nor sitting on the garage floor were acceptable approaches for my back.

After I bought this POS Hyper project , I was looking to buy one of the HF ones or similar, but prices were ridiculous. I built this one from scrap lumber and plywood I had lying around. Only thing I bought were the casters, $21 on Amazon - lets me push it into the corner when not working on it. I ripped the 2x6’s down to about 4” to lighten it up, and used a jigsaw to cut two handles in each side to make it easier to pick up carry around.
(That POS Hyper hasn’t moved from that table since I took this picture in January 2022.)

I gave up DIY decades ago, but still dabble with projects. I bought an EazyRizer lift about 25 years ago on a group buy I arranged from Rokon (Rokon uses em as a manufacturing platform)

    Strength isn't the issue.

When we were kids, we played a game called "freeze tag" where the person you tagged froze in place.

Now. If I'm in one position for more than a few minutes, I feel like I'm playing that game all by myself!

Re: A admission of old age - Work table

I’ve been fixing up dirtbikes and ATVs as a side hobby for the past couple years and it was taking its toll on my lower back. I bought one of those small moving dollies at harbor freight, and mounted a small bench to it that I had made years ago. It’s perfect height for most things, but the best part is I can work on the project out in the open, then wheel it off to the side when I’m not working on it. Primitive and simple.

I have an Abba lift stand but then my friend gave me a Harbor Freight lift table. Total game changer

Until recently at least one of my bikes was on my HF lift table all winter. Excellent winter storage. I could wheel my 850 lbs tour-barge around the garage with it strapped down to the table. That investment has easily paid for itself.

Have the HF lift. Every time I don’t use it on a small job I hate myself after for not using it. Between sore back and knees I’m like man I should have pulled that loft out of the corner of garage. Bought a boat just before Covid came about. My sorest moments of the summer are from trying to crawl between engines or reach into an area not made for a normal sized adult. I climb out of engine hatch and my hamstrings are just about locked up and my knees and back are shot for the rest of the day 61 years old, but I guess better to have done something and be sore than done nothing.
