Now that it is going to be getting slightly warmer I am going to be jamming on the 86 GSXR1100. Here is a list of what I have paid for and what I still have to find the funds for. The front end was off of Matt's (ilikenapalm) 99 GSXR600 and I got the bearing from Zoran to allow the triple from the 600 to fit int he 1100 frame. This front end has FZ1 calipers, master, and ss lines. The top triple already has the handlebar mounts on it, so that is all set for a pair of the fatbars to go on. The tail is going to be chopped but I am still trying to figure out what to do. My thought was to put a single seat on it and a very small tail behind that, like 2 or 3 inches, with a tail light and blinkers as well as the license plate under that. The valves are all done now and I also got a stage 3 jet kit off ebay for mad cheap. The rear tire on it right now is a 160, so I am planning on putting a 180 on the rear, or maybe even a 190, depending on what I have left over in the basement. I want the rims to match in color so I will be stripping them and having them powder coated. Haven't heard back from the place yet so that price is just an estimate. I will also have to strip the gas tank and paint that. As of yet I have not decided on a color yet. The headlight is black though. Also will clean the carbs when installing the new needles and jets. Trying to decide whether or not I want a front fender on it as of now too. Anyways here is the list of expenses

Awesome project. I have a soft spot for those old air/oil gixxers...had several including an '88 7/11 back in the early 90's that was an absolute monster.
Looks like a cool project.
You should add an airbox and proper air filter to the list of things to buy. They are an important part of the tuned induction system and removing them destroys any possible advantage you get from harnessing the energy of the induction pulse resonance. There's a reason the pod filter fad died quickly...
Do NOT drill holes in the airbox cover or anything like that either. She'll probably run a lot better with the airbox and a good filter in it over the pods.
I've never looked into the restoration of the older gixxers, but am curious, why the forks off a '99? Availability? And probably price if you did find them?
Good luck with it, we wanna see the "after" pics too![]()
I do too. Had an 86 750 and loved it.
Thanks I will look on ebay for one to pop up. I assume the stage 3 jet kit will still work well with this.
Well. Originally as you probably already know the 86 and 87 models came with 18" wheels. The rear could be directly swapped out with the 17" rear, but the front conversion requires a whole front end swap. My friend Matt totaled his 99 GSXR600 last year and parted with it for cheap. Plus it already had fat bars and bar mounts on the top triple. And for $230 for the calipers, rotors, ss lines, fz1 master, tire, triples, forks, bars, as well as the perch and lever.
I will be sure to include pic updates![]()

Some of my fave's of all time. Can't wait to see the finished product!
Did you grit your teeth and try to look like Clint Fuckin' Eastwood?
Or did you lisp it all hangfisted like a fuckin' flower?
I didn't know that about the older gixxers. I know some older kawi's had 16 inch wheels though. Oddball. Sounds like you got a sweet deal on the front end and with a 17 inch rear you'll have better tire choices I think, how wide is the rear?
Whats on it for an exhaust now and are you going to replace the entire thing? I bet it sounds mean as it sits
I had a 94 750... I wish I still had it.
Oh yeah, btw. Christian, if you'd like to buy the Yosh slip on, lemme know.
Thanks Stoner
Yea my 750 actually had the stock 18's on it. I like the look of the 17's better too.
And I am planning on replacing the D+D with a D+D lol. So same exhaust. Only because the headers are all rusted from over the years. If there was some way to get that off like media blasting it or something I am all ears. And I just went out to the garage to double check, and it is a 17x4.50 rear rim.
Is this the Yosh you are talking about?
