I have issues. My brake light is on until I squeeze the front brake, then it goes out, along with the tail light.
I tested the micro switch and it seems good. 0 ohms til pressed.
I suspect I pinched the harness in the rear fender area, but I don't know how to test that...
Unplug both ends of the wire and test across the leads.
Verify that all of your grounds are good. Sometimes if the ground to the frame from the battery is loose these things happen.
Mmmm... my battery went suspiciously weak recently, but the light issue has been around for a while, I unplugged the switch and just used the rear brake for light, but now I need an inspection.
Bergs, that doesn't mean anything to me. The harness to the brake light has three wires. what am I looking for...
I'd have to see a wire diagram or perhaps the actual set up you have but you are looking for any combination of the three wires that show resistance when measured across one end. If you already know which wire is the ground then isolate the remaining two wires and test to a grounding point. Any reading on the meter suggests that particular wire is grounding out somewhere.
You still owe me beer for fixing your Ranger.

Ranger is DOA. burnt valve! I'm a friggin trouble magnet right now. If I gave you beer, it would probably cause some problems for you...
Drat, I have eliminated the easy part of the harness, but found the wire going into the main harness to be the one that shows resistance...
Check the ground connection to the bulb(s). Sounds like it's got a floating ground (trailer lights do the same thing when the ground fails).
