    Brake pads for motards

I need new brake pads for my CRF450 motard.

How do I know what pads I need? Obviously not the stock CRF pads, right? It's got the motomaster front caliper with 320mm(I think?) rotor.

So you're worrying about stopping before you can even go?

    Makes sense I guess.

    Motomaster brake pads.
From what I tell they're one size fits all, 2 compounds.

as in made by motomaster? or motomaster is a sstandard size of pad?

if it's made by them, are their pads any good? if not, do other companies (i.e. EBC) make pads for that caliper?

Its made by them, the ones I've gotten anyway. I havent figured if any other company makes some that fit. Ive used the soft and hard compound, didnt notice much of a difference, wasnt real thrilled with the initial bite of the hard compound, but after a bit of time they wore nicely.

Take a pad out, and go to any shop that has an EBC catalog. Flip through the pages till you find a silhouette that looks right, place the pad over it to confirm.

I'm a little confused, why would you look for an alternative brake pad for a braking system made by one of the best and well known braking companies in the SM market? Buy the MotoMaster pads that are designed to work with their calipers

Thanks for the info. I read up a little bit and I think I'll give the soft ones a try. Even motomasters web site says the initial bite of the hard ones is not as good. At Loudon I would think that is important. I really like the initial bite on my vesrah SRJL's on my R6 so I'm used to that feel.

Did the soft ones wear out real quick for you?

It's always nice to have options, and I didn't/don't know/hear anything about the motomaster pads up until now...

They wore ... somewhat quick I think? I know I wore them down further than I should in less than a year. Dunno how good relatively that is compared to other brakes. I changed them either the 3rd to last or 2nd to last race weekend, cant remember which. I figure go through 2 sets a season. That includes the track days, and practices I did as well.

And for the record, I think I asked Ted if he could get them, and all the components are listed EXCEPT brake pads, I dunno if thats changed or not. I think Doug was the same story? Id been ordering them from Motostrano or something, but of course thats a pain, and have to pay for shipping and all that. Basically what I'm saying is, make sure you always keep an extra set on hand in case you need them.

I don't think 2 sets a season is too outrageous if there's extra braking power. They're not expensive.

    Re: Brake pads for motards

    I found those too

    http://www.motostrano.com/mobrpa1.html

It's weird that when I google shopping search for "motomaster supermoto brake pads soft" there are more results for the first type than the type you posted. I'll have to pull mine out and check em.

    thanks for info

I don't recall your suggestion, or how it relates to me putting too much time on my motor?

It's all apart I just have to buy the parts, I've been putting it off...

They are great brake pads though, but $$... wear seems to be excellent thus far, they did a bunch of time last season and are still on the bike. kurvey gurl has best prices
