And is this place setup to grind rotors down? I've got a set that I'd like to be thinned to 4mm...

If my pistons aren't stuck, is there any benefit to cleaning them or rebuilding the caliper?
For street riding, stock stuff is good enough for me. Only thing I've done is replace the front brake lines to ss braided lines on my GSXR. Still on the OEM pads (I tend to engine brake a lot for some reason). Pad life is getting low though, will probably need to replace them at the end of this riding season possibly. My Z1000 is still bone stock in the brake dept. Will probably replace the lines next year for ss braided.
Yeah I figured it doesn't hurt to clean them that's for sure.
Also is there any way to tell if my headset is loose? I'm 99% sure the vibration I'm getting under braking is due to the rotors but I just want to make sure the headset isn't loose before I drop 600 bucks on rotors and pads.
are you talking about steering head bearings?
track tech will stand in front of the bike with the brake lever pulled. lightly move the bike forward to feel the bearing movement.
GMD will take the steering damper off and feel the movement by moving the bars from stop to stop.
I had good luck with the stock SV rotors and calipers, I just wanted better suspension, so I did the GSX-R frint end swap. My SV now runs:
Accossato 19x18 radial MC
Stock 06 310mm GSX-R600 rotors
Spiegler SS lines
09 R6 mono calipers
Carbone Lorraine CL60 pads
Motul RBF-600 brake fluid
The new setup has a little better feel than the stock system did, but the stock calipers and rotors worked very well with the Spiegler lines and Accossato MC.
If you're going to try changing something, start with the master cylinder and lines.
