Chain slack

there are people on here that claim 30,000 miles on one chain/sprocket kit when they do take care of it.

I got about 36,xxx out of mine.

...and for the love of god, dont buy a clip-on master link for your chain. rivet !!!!

otherwise, you may end up with this while riding your bike an hour away from home.

i have ordered several times through solomoto parts, and Dan has very fair prices and excellent customer service. they will ship that over for free, since the total is over $99.

and i know someone posting on this thread, that would most likely be willing to install it for you for a very reasonable price

if you do order from there, there is a drop down for size. just select stock for both sprockets (unless you know your sprockets have been changed like -1/+2)

Oh crap, I just remembered Geof did say they were swapped. I THINK he said +1, -2. I also have the stockers. Just looked at them.. decent looking.. just need to be cleaned.

if your teeth have been changed, there is a chance your chain may be a few links too short. the chain needs to be replaced regardless.

go to that Ace Hardware and get some kerosene (down stairs, 2nd isle). clean those sprockets with kerosene using a nylon brush, but dont leave it soaking. make sure you wear gloves when using the kerosene.

everyone recommends replacing both sprockets and chain at the same time, for even wear. if those stock sprockets are in good shape, it's up to you if you wanna save $60. check those links i posted. they should be for an 02 TLR with a stock 530 chain using suzuki's OEM sprockets (sunstar).

best way to answer that is to count your links on the chain you have. the 120 link chain will obviously cost a few more bucks.

if you have -1/+2 sprockets, then make sure you have a few extra links on the new chain, than whatever you have now, if you plan on going back to stock.

I'll buy the new sprockets. I'll call Geof tomorrow and see what the current set up is so I can stay the same. The chain says max engine size says 750cc which is weird since the search is set for my bike..

i originally gave you a link to a 525 chain by mistake, but then edited that chain link. check it again. sprockets and chains have to match up. your bike stock is a 530 chain, so you would need 530 sprockets.

+1, I clean my chain every 300-500 miles and I'm over 10,000 miles and it's no where near being replaced.

Hi Guys, The chain is fine. I just left a little too much slack when I had the rear apart to install the rear shock. Just needs to be adjusted. When I get back from My current deployment I pan to take care of that for him. I'll probably take care of cleaning the chain as well since I neglected to do that before the sale. sat all winter collecting dust and such.

i disagree about the chain wax. that needs to be put on a hot chain. use Bel-Ray Superclean. it goes on white so you can see what youve lubed.

TLs are geared pretty tall, 17/38 or 17/37, my V-strom is 17/41 and even it has a very tall first gear, many people gear them down, just so that slow speed manuvering isn't such a project of slipping the clutch

Yup.. Couldn't be happier with the transaction.. I've dealt with a hole sellers before but quite the opposite with Geof.

That explains a lot... still trying to figure out taking turns with this bike.
