CRF Cylinder Nicacil Chipping

I took apart my motor to slap a new piston in it for this weekend and while inspecting the cylinder I found chipping on the top of the jug. Here is a picture of the damage. After talking to my friend I decided not to run it and will be spectating for the weekend. But what could have caused this?

Crown is all covered with carbon just like the rest of the piston. No stream in the middle.

Hrmm... my first thought was maybe some detonation, I'd think that's show evidence on the crown though.
