I am trying to finish my R1 so I can ride it, and only have a few minor things left.
Any suggestions for what to cover wires to strenghen and protect them. This bike was stolen and has the wires exposed at the moment. I dont want to replace the whole harness If I do not have to. Once I get something strong with some sort of mesh cover I will shrink tube over that to make it look stock, and neat...
Where to get supplies, and what exactly am I looking for???

i'm sure you could probably hit up any hardware store... get some sorta wiring harness wrap... i think i saw some once... kinda like electrical tape, but thicker. just wrapped it around the wires like the grip of a baseball bat or tennis racket

Honestly, you can probably just get some of the nice shrink tube and shrink tube right over the damaged bits... Its what I would do anyhow...Originally posted by Half Squid

But when we ride very fast motorcycles, we ride with immaculate sanity. We might abuse a substance here and there, but only when it's right. The final measure of any rider's skill is the inverse ratio of his preferred Traveling Speed to the number of bad scars on his body. It is that simple: If you ride fast and crash, you are a bad rider. If you go slow and crash, you are a bad rider. And if you are a bad rider, you should not ride motorcycles.
only problem w/ shrink tube is that there's usually a big fat wiring harness at the only end you can slide it over.... and 9 times outta 10 murpheys law kicks in & the only sized shrink tube over the wiring harness won't shrink tight to the wires... always happens to me![]()

You can use that black, plastic, conduit-type stuff. I've used it alot on the big truck with all the extra electrics I have on it. Just slice it along the length, slip it on and wrap a little electrical tape to hold it together. Holds up surprisingly well...
I've never been a big fan of the shrink tube stuff. Don't know why really, just not...
I've also used 'liquid electrical tape' on my trailer's wiring. Works pretty good, neat stuff...
Did you grit your teeth and try to look like Clint Fuckin' Eastwood?
Or did you lisp it all hangfisted like a fuckin' flower?
McMaster Carr has braided Polyethylene Mesh Sleeving and Woven Nylon (basically Nomex). It resembles the old chinese finger traps. Solder the wires together, put a small piece of heat shrink over the patch overlapping the jacket of the wire. Then bundle the entire wire harness into the sleeving. If you really want to seal the deal cover the entire thing in heat shrink. Good Luck...

For every action there is an equal but opposite reaction - and sometimes a scar...
Thanks ! I'll check my catalog at work tomorrow.Originally posted by SSearchVT

I already have sauder wire a saudering pen heat shring tubes so I am ready to rock and get the wrapping done, just wish I could just go pick this wrap stuff up locally like tomorrow.... I checked C.A.P and NAPA with only crappy plastic sheathing...
Everything else on the bike is done!!!![]()
I might bring it to work tomorrow??
Not sure I want to risk using my RC plate just to ride it.... I am dying to ride it though... It runs and sounds mint! All my lighting issues are resolved, my battery replaced and working nice! Woooohoooo I can wait to get this inspected for a reconstruction title and put her on the street!!!
