This might have been discussed before. Just wondering about the difference of the recommanded spring rate between RaceTech and Penske. I know that the rate given by Penske chart for a range between 120~160lbs (with gear), and you have to manually input the variables with RaceTech. Still there is rate difference of 90~60lbs, with RaceTech recommanding a softer rate.
Having said that, I do believe some people do run rates that are out of the recommanded range?

The spring rate is just a starting point. They are recommending a rate that works well for most people in that range. It doesnt always work. It also depends on your riding style and the feel youre looking for. I find I like a stiff, loose bike. So I ride a heavy spring. I have a 1.1 in the front and Im not sure what I have in the back but I know I went up at least 1 rate from what was shipped with it. On the other side I ride with my compression and rebound dialed pretty soft. So Im on the spring more then the valving. PK doesnt like that because my bike moves around a lot so when hes on it he turns the compression and rebound more to the hard end of what we have.
The only way youll know for sure what works for you is to try out different springs. There is really no right or wrong answer.
